O2 movie review: Nayanthara delivers an engaging psychological drama

We only realise the true value of things we take for granted when we don’t have enough of it. We value water more during a drought and oxygen when it’s low in supply. In The opening of the movie is very cliche. For the first 15 minutes of the movie, we get repeated shots and a song to establish a rudimentary point about a mother’s unconditional love for her son. After we get past some expendable narrative obligations, we get to the interesting part. Parvathy’s (Nayanthara) son Veera (Rithvik) suffers from a medical condition that requires him to be on oxygen support round the clock. But, his suffering is about to end, as he will soon undergo a life-saving surgery, which will allow him to breathe normally without any support. Parvathy and Veera are headed towards a Cochin hospital for the surgery. Everything is packed, including an extra oxygen tank and Veera’s pet pot plant. O2 is a Tamil thriller movie direction by GS Viknesh, starring Nayanthara, Rithvick, Shaa Ra, RNR Manohar and Ciby. The movie produced by SR Prakash Babu, SR Prabhu under the banner 'Dream Warrior Pictures'. The music for the movie composed by Vishal Chandrasekar, while Selva RK handles editing and Tamizh A Azhagan hanldes cinematograpghy. Parvathy (Nayanthara) is a single mother who lives with her little son Veera (Rithvik). The child suffers from a disorder named cystic fibrosis, which makes it difficult for him to breathe without the support of an oxygen cylinder. After learning that Veera can lead a normal life post-surgery, she takes him to a reputed hospital in Kochi for the same.

O2 - An engaging survival thriller Nayanthara after becoming the Lady Superstar of the South has regularly delivered impressive female driven films that have struck a balance between content and commercial elements. Whether her latest outing 'O2', a survival thriller will grip the audience remains to be seen. Parvathy (Nayanthara) is the mother of a seven year old child Veera (Rithvik) who is suffering from cystic fibrosis, a lung affliction and can breathe normally only with the help of an oxygen cylinder. The doting mother decides to take her ailing son from Coimbatore to Cochin for a surgery that might ease her son's misery. She boards a private travel bus in which the other passengers are a couple planning to elope, the girl's father, a jailbird who wants to meet his mother and an opposition party politician and his henchman. A corrupt cop (Bharath Neelakandan) boards the bus midway carrying a bag of narcotic drugs. The bus driver (Aadukalam Murugadoss) is forced to takes a diversion through a hill station following a roadblock and a landslide buries the vehicle deep in mud. Will Parvathy be able to save her son from not only nature's fury but from ordinary people who turn evil to survive is what 'O2 is all about.
