Ashadhi Wari Palkhi 2023: Traffic Changes In Pune District From June 14 Ashadhi Wari Palkhi 2023: Traffic Changes In Pune District From June 14 To ensure the smooth flow of the processions and maintain law and order, traffic regulations will be in effect from June 14 to June 18 for the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi Festival, and from June 15 to June 24 for the Shri Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi Festival. In light of the Shree Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Shree Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi processions' stay and movement in the city, transportation arrangements in the district have been modified. Dr Rajesh Deshmukh, the Pune Collector, has urged the public to utilize alternative routes during the Palkhi processions. The Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi will travel from Pune Rural District to Pandharpur via Pune-Saswad-Lonand. On the other hand, the Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi will follow the Pune-Solapur route through Roti Ghat via Baramati, Indapur, continuing towards Pandharpur via Akluj. The palkhis of Sant Tukaram Maharaj and Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj is set to arrive in Pune today - June 12, 2023. The traffic department in the city has already made preparations for the big day to provide a safe passage to the processions. Several routes in Pune City will be closed today. For the routes that will remain shut, commuters will have to use the diversions. Warkaris bring fervour to Alandi as pilgrimage to Pandharpur begins

PUNE: The Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi procession began its journey on Sunday evening to the pilgrim town of Pandharpur from Alandi amidst a large gathering of warkaris (a pilgrim sect) chanting 'Mauli Mauli'. The warkaris from different regions of the state, as well as from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat, have participated in the procession. The palanquin with the 'padukas' (revered footwear) of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj was brought out from the sanctum sanctorum of Alandi temple at 5.30pm. The atmosphere in the town resonated with hymns and devotional songs as devotees danced to the tune of traditional instruments before the palkhi. The procession took a half round of Alandi town before taking an overnight halt at Gandhi Wada near the temple. "We will start the journey toward Pune at 6am on Monday. In the 25-km journey, the palkhi will take a brief halt at Magazine Chowk for breakfast and a lunch break in Phulenagar in Vishrantwadi," said Vikas Dhagepatil, the president of the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi procession. "We endeavour to reach Sangamwadi between 5pm to 5.30pm to welcome the Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi, which will come via the old Pune-Mumbai old highway. The palkhis will enter the core areas of the city around 8.30pm," he added. Palkhi of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj: This procession is set to begin the journey from Alandi on Sunday. It will halt at Gandhi Wada in Alandi at night. Both processions are slated to arrive in Pune on Monday. The two Palkhis will take a day of rest on Tuesday in Pune — Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi at Nivdunga Vitthal Mandir and Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi at the Palkhi Vithoba Mandir. Both processions will start their separate journeys from Pune towards Pandharpur on Wednesday.
