In a recent meeting held at the main administrative building of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, Administrator Shekhar Singh approved several significant matters which needed approval from Standing Committee. The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioners Pradeep Jambhale Patil, Jitendra Wagh, Ulhas Jagtap, department heads, and officers. Among the crucial decisions made was the implementation of direct benefit transfer for school materials during the academic year 2023-24. This initiative aims to provide assistance to students in grades 1 to 10 in primary and secondary schools under the Municipal Corporation. Furthermore, the payment of Bank Guarantees for the Navin Thergaon, Navin Bhosari, and H.B.P. Prabhakar Malharrao Kutte Akurdi Hospital, as approved by the Maharashtra Pollution Control Corporation, was granted approval. To enhance medical services, external staff will be deployed at the Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital. Additionally, the appointment of six retired employees from the Chief Audit Department for auditing various departments of the Municipal Corporation was extended for a period of 6 months. Officials of the industrial city of Pimpri-Chinchwad are grappling with the problem of handling garbage disposed of by thousands of households across the city and will have to continue facing the issue. The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has been dumping the city’s waste for three decades at the Moshi garbage depot located at the 81-acre land on the Pune-Nashik Highway on the city’s outskirts. Officials said the Moshi garbage depot is filled to capacity and has no space to be used for any more waste. Pimpri-Chinchwad, which has a population of 27 lakh as per the 2011 Census, generates 1,100-tonne garbage every day and this, officials said, is going to rise in future. PCMC officials said on Sunday the state government is yet to take up the civic body’s proposal regarding the setting up of a new garbage depot for a good 10 years now. Even before the Moshi garbage depot started running out of space, PCMC officials said they had moved a proposal before the state government for setting up a second one at Punawale, on the left side of the “We had sent the proposal to the state government about 10 years back for setting up of our second garbage depot at Punawale. PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: IAS officer Shekhar Singh will take charge as the new commissioner of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on Wednesday. Singh replaced Odisha cadre IAS officer Rajesh Patil, who has been transferred as the managing director of the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC). An order regarding the same was issued by additional chief secretary Nitin Gadre on Tuesday. Shekhar Singh, who served as Satara district collector from March 2020 till July 2022 and was transferred in July, told TOI, "I will assume the charge most likely on Wednesday. Pimpri Chinchwad is among the fastest-growing cities in the country. It is going to be great exposure for me and I feel my background in structural engineering and other things can help me to perform well." Singh is an alumnus of IIT Guwahati and a postgraduate in structural engineering from the University of California (Berkeley, the US). He cleared the Union Public Service Commission in 2011. Patil was appointed the PCMC commissioner in February 2021. During his tenure of almost 18 months, Patil focussed on cleanliness initiatives and stressed on 100 percent waste segregation. Under his tenure, the PCMC's focus was to top the Swachh Bharat campaign. He also made it a priority to provide employment to transgenders and improve digital medium in governance by offering an online assessment of new properties, among others. Patil could not be contacted for comment despite repeated attempts.
