Rama Rao On Duty Movie Review: A Messy Mix Of Director’s Vision And Actor’s Image

It tells the story of Ramarao (Ravi Teja), a deputy collector who is posted as a Mandal Revenue Officer in Chittoor in 1995. There is a spate of murders related to red sanders and its smuggling, and the story revolves around Ramarao getting his hands dirty and investigating the dark forces that are involved in the illegal activity. Director Sarath Mandava seems oddly confused about how to treat the film and struggles with seamlessly weaving his vision into Ravi Teja's image. There is a lot of research that he has done regarding how exactly the smuggling takes place and it is to his credit that it never feels similar to Pushpa: The Rise, despite sharing the same space and place. But his leading man's over-the-top-ness and mandatory requirement of two female actors, make them misfits. There is not one but two poorly written women in the film starring Divyansha Kaushik and Rajisha Vijayan. Their names might as well be Right Hand Woman and Left Hand Woman. At some point, the two women meet and discuss how great the man who connects them is and then one of them gets to imagine a song sequence in Spain. It's not the outdated part that is worrisome, but the lack of imagination to begin with. Sure, you want to hark back to a time when songs were an excuse to showcase some new locations to an audience who might never get a chance to go to such exotic locations. Can the locations be more exotic then? Can the choreography be newer? Can the music feel fresher? Give the audience someth...

Ramarao On Duty Review: Off the mark!

What’s it about! Story setting: 1995. A sincere officer Ramarao (Ravi Teja) gets transferred to his hometown in Chittoor. He goes to extra lengths to do justice to the poor and the farmers. Ramarao has a wife (Divyanshaa Kaushik) and a son. Upon taking the charge as Mandal Revenue Officer/Deputy collector, he reads a woman’s letters who urges the government to transfer assets in her name as her husband has gone missing for many years. He reaches her home. She turns out to be his former girlfriend Malini (Rajisha Vijayan). Local Sub Inspector of Police Murali (Tottempudi Venu) dismisses Malini’s husband’s missing case as just another case. Then, Ramarao begins an investigation on his own to unearth the truth. Quickly, Ramarao finds a network of Red Sanders smugglers is operating in the area. Who is running this mafia? Why have many persons in the area gone missing? Will Ramarao succeed in his mission to find the truth? Analysis Director Sarath Mandava’s ‘Ramarao On Duty’ is based on real incidents. The smuggling of Red Sandalwood and the fake encounter killings of coolies are known to the public. Sarath Mandava has placed his core point on the early 1990s incidents. The basic premise is interesting. The story does have a couple of thrilling moments which should have amazed the audiences, but they fail to provide the desired results due to the poor execution. While Sarath has tried to come out of the shadows of Ravi Teja’s past movies and attempted to tell a story with a ser...

Though carrying low hype, “Ramarao On Duty” succeeded in creating enough buzz with its trailer. The makers said the film is different from Ravi Teja’s recent mass action dramas. Let’s find out whether any truth lies in their claims. Story: The story is set in 1995 in Chittoor. Ramarao (Ravi Teja), a deputy collector, is sincere and honest. He doesn’t mind transfers in going against the powerful forces to serve the people. Meanwhile, Ramarao’s former girlfriend (Rajisha Vijayan) comes across letters addressed to the government office seeking help in her husband’s missing case. As he begins the investigation, Ramarao finds there’s more to it than a mere missing case. How’s this case connected to Red Sander smuggling? Rama Rao On Duty Review: Rama Rao submits resignation

Ravi Teja- Sarath Mandava’s recent film “Rama Rao On Duty” makes it’s release in theatres. The film created huge hype in social media in recent times with promotions. Venu’s re-entry, Ravi Teja in a mass appeal created buzz on the film. Let’s see how the film fares at box-office. Story Ramarao, a mandal revenue officer who was formerly removed from the position of deputy collector, is posted in Chittoor in the year 1995 and he decides to find out about a few unsolved murders in his area. He learns from his own investigation that an illegal smuggling ring is responsible for the deaths. How Ramarao unravels the mystery and stops the smuggling of red sandalwood in his district is the subject of the remaining half of the narrative. Analysis ‘Ramarao On Duty’ title sounds like an out and out masala film but the theme is a serious one. The director tries to fill the first half with few family scenes. Ramarao gets married another girl than his original love. In process of finding missing youth, he confronts with the local police officer Jammi Murali ( Tottempudi Venu) and his SP. All the leads point to the sandalwood mafia which has been managed by a person named Viraz. Second half deals with how Ramarao takes on the culprits. First half of the film is more of conversational and passive. Audience might take a while to sync with the slow paced, award film approach in first half – which is unusual of Raviteja films. Investigative films succeed more if director is able to engage the...

Ramarao on Duty Movie Review: Intriguing as an idea, underwhelming as a film

The cold open of Ramarao On Duty —which transpires on a dark, raining night in a hilly forest—leaves a chilling impression. An old man notices a hand protrude from a freshly dug grave. He informs his wife that he needs to fix it and leaves with a hatchet. When he reaches the spot, we get a close-up of the hand, the old man taking a deep breath and… chuck! The nonchalance of this old couple and the mystery surrounding the act lends an ominous quality to this scene. When a title card that follows goes on to reveal that the story is based on many true incidents from past and present, it becomes all the way more thrilling. Mystery—both as a central plot point and as an attribute—binds the narrative of Ramarao on Duty, set predominantly in the hilly topography of Chithoor, together through the quick highs, steep lows, unnecessary detours and foreseeable turns. We equate the face of the aforementioned old man with a mystery and every time he appears on the screen—although it happens rarely—it piques our intrigue. Although it is a fair argument that this angle is relegated to a sub-plot towards the end, despite being the missing part of the puzzle that bolsters in forming a complete picture, the backstory and the closure of this specific arc are nicely thought out. This facet also left me wanting more of such creepy elements that add a different dimension to this investigative thriller, which is otherwise a one-man show, in true-blue Telugu Director: Sarath Mandava There’s a cons...

Ramarao On Duty review. Ramarao On Duty Tamil movie review, story, rating

'Ramarao On Duty' is currently showing at the cinemas. In this section, we are going to review the latest BO release. Story: Rama Rao (Ravi Teja), a Mandal Revenue Officer, is known for his controversial ways. His college-time girlfriend Malini (Rajisha Vijayan) crosses paths with him when he is posted somewhere in the Chittoor district. A personal tragedy she shares puts Rama Rao on a path of investigation. What is the investigation about? How does it tie with the larger smuggling mafia in the district? How does the hero untie the knots despite obstacles on his path? Answers to these questions are found as the film progresses. Analysis: Writer-director Sarath Mandava, who is a debutant, bases the film on real incidents that have happened in the Telugu States over the decades. The story is set in 1995, when communication facilities were meagre. Even ethical/legal phone tapping was not so easy. How Rama Rao wages a lonely battle against the smuggling mafia in such a scenario makes for an interesting premise. To the director's credit, he doesn't fill the film with action blocks. The film turns into an investigation action thriller, especially in the second half. The ending introduces a lead to a probable second part, if it is made. The lead-up to the investigation track is what the first half is about. And the attempt to force an emotional connection between Rama Rao and Malini fails to click. One wonders what the likes of VK Naresh are doing in the film. Arvind Krishna gets...

Ramarao, a mandal revenue officer who was formerly removed from the position of deputy collector, is posted in Chittoor in the year 1995 and he decides to find out about a few unsolved murders in his area. He learns from his own investigation that an illegal smuggling ring is responsible for the deaths. Can Ramarao stop the smugglers? Just 15mins into the film, I understood what a shit show I sat over for, the preaching of protagonist even by his nemesis as the ultimate good was so unbearably over the top. It has zero logics, a sub collector who preaches about being lawfully right sets two men ablaze just for his introduction shot, that's it, here only we understand how the rest of the film is gonna be! It has no emotional connect and the conflict resolution is at it's worst, even the baddies are so gullible that just a few words and boom, they become sane as saints. And the sequences are dragged so much unnecessarily that the whole plot could have fit into one film, but… • #RamaraoOnDuty (Telugu) - Bhale pettaru ra title short form lo ROD ani. Title justified.
