Ravan dahan, an increasing trend in Dwarka’s community

In the last few years, Ravan dahan on Vijayadashmi has become a much loved and trending event in Dwarka. Apart from the significant event at Sector 10 by Dwarka Sri Ramlila Committee and at Sector 11 by the Association of Social and Cultural Events, societies and RWAs are also burning the effigies of Ravana, Kumbhkarna and Meghnath. The trend of burning the effigies is increasing in the community of the sub-city year after year. RWAs and managing committees of the DDA pockets and Cooperative Group Housing Societies respectively, are now organising Ravan dahan inside the society premises or on any vacant land near the society. At Sector 10 the Ramlila will be concluded with the burning of effigies of Ravana on October5, 2022. According to Ramlila Committee, here, the largest effigy of Ravana in Dwarka which is 95 feet would be burnt. There would be effigies of Kumbhkarn of 85 feet, Meghnath of 75 feet and also a special effigy of Corona of 60 feet would be burnt. Apart from this a golden Lanka of 30 feet in height will also be burnt on the day of Ravan Dahan. “This would be one of the centres of attractions this year's Dusshera celebration, ” says the Chief patron of Dwarka Sri Ramlila Committee, and Ex-MLA of the area, Rajesh Gehlot.
