At different places, water is trapped into the earth . Trapped watercomes in contact with hot spots and it get converted into steam.Since this steam remains trapped between rocks, it gets compressed to a very high pressure. On drilling and introducing pipes upto the compressed steam, the trapped steam can be driven out at high speed. This is utilized to turn the turbines and generate electricity. At some places steam and hot water find their way through large cracks between rocks and serve as natural geysers. Advantages of using geothermal energy are: (i) It is clean, environment friendly and economical.
