Rahul Gandhi told to vacate official residence after disqualification

Rahul Gandhi has been told to vacate his official residence in New Delhi following disqualification from the Parliament. The Lok Sabha Housing Committee has reportedly issued a one-month notice to the Congress leader just three days after the Lok Sabha Secretariat served a notice of disqualification. Gandhi was convicted by the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate in Surat, in a defamation case over a remark about the Modi surname. While Congress' Lok Sabha whip, Manickam Tagore has said Gandhi was not worried about government accommodation, BJP's national spokesperson, Shehzad Poonawalla mocked: "It's not an ancestral property, he is a tenant." Gandhi has been residing at a bungalow on 12, Tughlaq Lane in Lutyens' Delhi since he became an MP in 2004 from Amethi. He held on to the Type-8 bungalow with five bedrooms even after losing Amethi in the 2019 General Elections, when he retained his membership in the Parliament by winning from Wayanad in Kerala. https-www-onmanorama-com-news onmanorama-topic-general-topics-30-parliament https-www-onmanorama-com-news-india https-www-onmanorama-com-acp 58hr2h53ea46fi3a7e1hci7d5g onmanorama-topic-destination-6-new-delhi onmanorama-topic-person-34-rahul-gandhi onmanorama-topic-general-topics-10-congress onmanorama-topic-destination-4-india

Rahul Gandhi Has 1 Month to Vacate 12, Tughlaq Lane Bungalow? What Next After Lok Sabha Disqualification

12, Tughlaq Lane in Lutyens’ Delhi has been synonymous with Convicted for defamation over his “all Modis are thieves” remark, Rahul Gandhi had retained the bungalow, which comes under the highest ‘Type 8′ category, in 2019 when he lost from Amethi but won from Wayanad in Kerala. The potential loss of the bungalow would be a heavy blow to the Gandhi family scion but pales in comparison to the threat of being barred from contesting elections, one year before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Rahul Gandhi would not be able to contest elections for eight years unless a higher court stays his conviction by a Surat court in the 2019 criminal defamation case. The court sentenced the Wayanad MP to two years in jail in the defamation case, filed on a complaint by BJP MLA Purnesh Modi for his alleged remark, “How come all thieves have Modi as the common surname?" In 2020, Congress general secretary and Rahul Gandhi’s sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was also asked to vacate her bungalow in Lutyens’ Delhi with the government saying she is not entitled to the facility following withdrawal of her SPG protection. ‘I Live at 12, Tughaq Lane But…’ Rahul Gandhi had referred to his official address in February this year during his Bharat Jodo Yatra. The Congress leader had said he has never owned a house and had recalled the family’s experience of leaving their government accommodation in 1977. “There was a strange atmosphere in the house. I went to mummy and asked her what happened. Ma told me tha...

BREAKING: Rahul Gandhi Asked to Vacate MP Bunglow After Disqualification

Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha Housing Committee's notice to Rahul Gandhi comes hours after the former Congress president lambasted the Centre over the Adani issue. "LIC's capital, to Adani! SBI's capital, to Adani! EPFO's capital too, to Adani! Why is the public's retirement money being invested in Adani's companies even after 'Modani' exposed?"tweeted Rahul. Earlier this year in February, Rahul Gandhi referred to his official address during his Bharat Jodo Yatra. The Congress leader had said he has never owned a house. "There was a strange atmosphere in the house. I went to mummy and asked her what happened. Ma told me that we are leaving the house…. Till that time I used to think it was our house. Then my mom told me for the first time that it was not our house, but the government’s and we have to leave it now." Rahul Gandhi's Disqualification From Lok Sabha Earlier last week, Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from Lok Sabha following his conviction by Surat court in a 2019 defamation case filed against him over his 'Modi surname' remark. While addressing a rally at Kolar in Karnataka ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi asked,"how come all the thieves have Modi as the common surname?” Following his contentious statement, BJP MLA and former Gujarat minister Purnesh Modi filed against Gandhi.

Rahul set to lose official 12 Tughlaq Lane residence

‘Greater threat to the party is that unless a higher court stays his conviction, he won’t be able to contest elections for 8 years’. NEW DELHI: With former Congress president, Rahul Gandhi, getting disqualified as a Lok Sabha MP, the Gandhi scion is set to lose his official Lutyens’ Delhi residence at 12, Tughlaq Lane. Gandhi’s current bungalow comes in “Type 8’ category which is the highest. Moreover, sources claim that the bypolls for the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency, which Gandhi represented, will be held next month in April. The case in which Rahul Gandhi was disqualified pertains to the remarks made by him on 13 April 2019, at a Lok Sabha election rally in Karnataka’s Kolar where he said, “Why all thieves have Modi in their names whether be it Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi, and Narendra Modi?” This remark, BJP leaders say, defamed the “Modi community”. Thus, a court in Surat sentenced Rahul Gandhi to two years in jail in the defamation case on Thursday. However, he was granted bail immediately and the sentence was suspended for a month. Parliamentary affairs minister Pralhad Joshi on Thursday claimed that during the course of the inquiry, the Surat court, which sentenced Rahul Gandhi to a two-year jail term in the criminal defamation case, asked the Congress leader “again and again” if he will apologise, but he refused. Meanwhile, the greater threat to the party is that unless a higher court (Supreme Court) stays his conviction by the Surat court in the 2019 criminal defam...
