One of five Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs recently elected to Gujarat Assembly has said that he will ask the people if he should join the BJP or not. Citing the BJP’s mammoth poll victory, Bhupat Bhayani, the AAP MLA from Visavadar seat in Junagadh district, said he will not be able to do anything for the people who voted for him if he remains in the opposition. “I have not joined the BJP… I will ask the people if I should join the BJP or not… My seat is in an area dominated by farmers. I need to solve their irrigation-related problems. There are many traders in the area as well. I need to look after them too. I’ll not be able to do that if I do not have good connections with the government. I have placed my demands before the government have got a positive response. I’ll now consult the people, the leaders," Bhayani said in an exclusive interview to NDTV. Gujarat AAP MLA demands separate state of 'Bhil Pradesh' for tribals

By Press Trust of India: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA and tribal leader Chaitar Vasava on Tuesday raised anew the demand for a separate state of `Bhil Pradesh' for the tribal populations in Gujarat and the three neighbouring states. BJP MP and fellow tribal leader Mansukh Vasava, however, said that this will create "anarchy" and friction between the tribal communities and others. "History tells us that there was a separate state called Bhil Pradesh. But after independence that state was divided and its parts were merged into different states such as Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra," Chaitar Vasava, first-time MLA from the Scheduled Tribes-reserved Dediapada seat in Gujarat's Narmada district, said. ALSO READ | A delegation headed by Chhotubhai Vasava had handed over a memorandum containing this demand to then President Pratibha Patil several years ago, he noted. "If you continue to do injustice to the tribal people, we will definitely raise the demand for a separate Bhil Pradesh," the young leader added. In Kevadia, where the Statue of Unity stands, thousands of hectares of land belonging to tribal communities was given away to outsiders for various projects, he said. "As a result, tribals of the area, who were the real owners of the land, are now reduced to working as labourers for Rs 280 per day," said Vasava. "Since our rights on our Jal, Jungle and Jamin (water, forest and land) are being snatched away, we are again raising this demand for a separate Bh...

This New AAP MLA from Gujarat’s Dediapada Lives in a Kutcha House

Even as the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) tall claims of winning Gujarat were swept away by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which won 156 of the 182 seats, one of their five winning MLAs, Chaitar Vasava, is standing out for another reason — his kutcha house. Vasava, who secured 1,03,433 votes (55.87%), winning Dediapada by a margin of 40,000 votes, lives in this house with his two wives. AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal had come all the way to Jhagadiya to form an alliance with the Bhartiya Tribal Party (BTP). This alliance did not last long, but Kejriwal managed to get support from Vasava, who later joined the AAP and fought this election on the party’s ticket. ‘VICTORY OF PEOPLE’ Vasava did door-to-door campaigns. His wives, Shakuntala and Varsha, and the whole family campaigned for him and put in their best efforts. Vasava says, “In the history of Narmada district, no leader had managed to get one lakh votes till this election. This is not the victory of Chaitar Vasava or the AAP, it’s the victory of people.” Vasava says during his tenure as an extension officer, he realised how tribal people were not getting benefits of the schemes meant for them. Ten years ago, Vasava and Shakuntala started working for people. Varsha, a nurse, also joined him later and married him. Both the wives live under one roof. Chaitar Vasava with his family. (News18) ‘WILL SOLVE PROBLEMS’ Vasava hails from Bogaj village in Dediapada. Vasava said that he had to do hard labour and work on farms to pay for h...
