AAP councillors stage sit

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillors began an indefinite sit-in protest at the Karol Bagh Zone Office of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) against the alleged “nexus between the building mafia and the civic body officials”. “For the past five months, AAP councillors have been raising this issue in every meeting with the officials but no action has been taken against it. We have brought up this issue in the presence of both the DC (District Commissioner) and the AC (Assistant Commissioner) but no action has been taken,” the AAP said in a statement on Monday. The AAP councillors demanded an investigation into this alleged nexus, and the removal of the local District Commissioner. The AAP councillors have alleged that “corrupt MCD officials are extorting money from people who are constructing buildings in the area”. They claimed “this indicates a collusion between the building mafia and the MCD officials”. The AAP has also alleged that the building mafia has been harassing the local residents on a daily basis by issuing them notices and causing trouble. “The AAP wants to know how many notices were issued by the DC in the past five years and how many were issued in the past five months since they came to power in the MCD. In the past five months, these individuals have issued more notices compared to the last five years. Moreover, during the previous five years, no actions were taken against illegal constructions because the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) was in power in...

AAP MP Raghav Chadha moves Delhi court against RS Secretariat after losing official bungalow

By Aneesha Mathur: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha has moved a petition in Delhi’s Patiala House Courts against the Rajya Sabha Secretariat after it cancelled the allotment of a Type-VII bungalow to him. In his plea, Raghav Chadha has argued that he could not have been dispossessed of the official bungalow without due procedure and the letter cancelling the allotment is illegal. In an order dated April 19, the Patiala House Courts directed that Chadha "shall not be dispossessed without due process of law". The Rajya Sabha Secretariat then filed an application opposing Chadha's plea and arguing that the court could not have passed the April 19 order without hearing the secretariat. On June 1, the Rajya Sabha MP filed a reply to the application, arguing that he had been legitimately allotted the bungalow as per procedure by the RS Chairman, had moved to the Type-VII bungalow after renovations and that the allotment letter itself contained the circumstances/situations where he can be asked to vacate the premises. Also Read The next hearing on the matter is scheduled for July 10. According to the Rajya Sabha Members Handbook, first-time MP Chadha is entitled to Type-V accommodation. MPs who are former Union Cabinet Ministers, former Governors or former Chief Ministers and former Lok Sabha Speakers, are entitled to Type-VII bungalow.

BJP AAP Delhi Face

New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal's "emergency" meeting of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs today produced a reassuring headcount as the party accused the BJP of offering Rs 20 crore to its MLAs to topple its government in Delhi. Fifty-three of AAP's 62 MLAs in Delhi attended the meeting at the Chief Minister's home. Those missing are all accounted for and pledged their support on the speaker phone with Arvind Kejriwal, AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj said. At least 12 MLAs said they had received BJP offers and each pledged support to Mr Kejriwal "till their last breath", he said. After the meeting, Mr Kejriwal and his MLAs went in a large group to Mahatma Gandhi's memorial Rajghat "to pray for the failure of the BJP's Operation Lotus". "I have heard that they are trying to bribe 40 MLAs to cross over. I am happy that not a single MLA has given in," Mr Kejriwal told reporters. In the morning, there were tense moments for AAP as it tracked the arrivals at the meeting and tried to contact MLAs who were "unreachable". "All MLAs are being contacted. Yesterday the message(of the meeting) was communicated and the MLAs with whom contact could not be established will be done. BJP is preparing to break 40 MLAs," Mr Pandey told reporters. AAP has 62 MLAs in the 70-member Delhi assembly. The BJP has eight and needs 28 more for a majority. Under the anti-defection law, around 40 MLAs can break away from AAP without facing action. AAP has accused the BJP of plotting an "Operation Lotus" to bring down ...
