‘Dronacharya firms up a strategy to attack Abhimanyu from behind’

By Express News Service BENGALURU : ‘O Destroyer of the Universe! Grant me a boon so that I can defeat all the five Pandavas in battle.’‘O Jayadrath. You are asking for the impossible. What you ask for contradicts a boon I had given Arjun many years ago, impressed as I was when he gave me a tough fight. I granted him the knowledge and use of the formidable Pashupatastra.’ However, I will grant you a boon which comes close to what you have asked. On a day that you choose, you will be able to defeat the other four Pandava brothers - Yudhishtir, Bhim, Nakul and Sahadev. On that day, you will be unstoppable and no one will be able to defeat you. The effect of the boon will wear off once the day comes to an end.’ Jayadrath who has been waiting for an opportunity to strike back at the Pandavas, finds his moment during the bloody Kurukshetra war, with Arjun’s son Abhimanyu. He thinks to himself, ‘If I kill Abhimanyu, Arjun will be crestfallen and will not have the heart to fight us. Abhimanyu’s death will further create dissensions and the brothers will part ways. Once that happens, it is a matter of time before we vanquish the Pandavas.’ Back on the battlefield, Dronacharya notices the absence of Arjun who is away from the theatre of action, fighting Susharma and his army. This is a deliberate ploy to wean him away when they implement their strategy to end the war once and for all - the formation of the Chakravyuh. With its creation, the Kauravas gain the upper hand and casualtie...

The various Mahabharata, it was important to place powerful fighters in positions where they could inflict maximum damage to the opposing force, or defend their own side. As per this military strategy, a specific stationary object or a moving object or person could be captured, surrounded and fully secured during battle. The formation begins with two soldiers standing back-to-back, with other such set of soldiers standing at a distance of three hands, drawing up seven circles and culminating in the end which is the place where the captured person or object is to be kept. In order to form the Chakravyuha, the commander has to identify soldiers who will form this formation. The number of soldiers to be deployed and the size of the Chakravyuha is calculated as per the resistance estimated. Once drawn, the foremost soldiers come on either side of the opponent to be captured, engage briefly and then advance. Their place is taken up by the next soldiers on either side, who again engage the opponent briefly and then advance. In this fashion, a number of soldiers pass the enemy and proceed in a circular pattern. By the time the rear of the formation arrives, the oblivious enemy is surrounded on all sides by seven tiers of soldiers. The last soldiers of the formation give the signal of having comp...

Mo Farah: Today’s Abhmanyu Who Came Out of the Chakravyuh

The setting was perfect. The finals of the 10,000 metres race in the ongoing World Athletics Championship in London. The stadium was full, not a single seat vacant. All eyes were on Mo Farah. Undoubtedly, the best distance runner of all times. He had proved himself to be a legend time and again, winning double gold medals in 5,000 and 10,000 metres time and again. But this was possibly his last 10,000 metres race. And opposition knew it. They wanted to beat him at any cost. The line up had the best in the world. Three Ugandans, three Ethiopians, two Kenyans. All of them had one clear motive. To beat Mo Farah. The sun had gone down, a cool breeze was blowing across the stadium, perfect for a long, gruelling race. Thirty athletes lined the starting block, divided in two groups, eagerly awaiting the sound of the gun. The Ugandans took an early lead, setting a nice pace, closely followed by a Kenyan. But leading for 25 laps of a 400 metres track is not an easy task. The World Championship has its own stress and plays games on your mind. When a Ugandan would tire, he would signal to the Kenyan or the Ethiopian to take the lead. It was becoming clear that the East Africans were running this individual race as a team, just to beat Mo Farah. It was a war on tracks. Runner warriors were battling against the one and only Mo Farah. Initially, Mo bid his time, running comfortably at the back of the pack. By the end of lap 12, around the middle of the race, he started to move up. Every...

A plausible strategy to beat the Chakravyuha strategy of Mahabharata – Just Finding A Name

The Padmavyūha ( Chakravyūha (चक्रव्यूह) refers to a Military formation narrated in the Hindu epic The Chakravyūha or Padmavyūha, is a multi-tier defensive formation that looks like a blooming padma, पद्म) or disc ( chakra, चक्र) when viewed from above. The warriors at each interleaving position would be in an increasingly tough position to fight. The formation was used in the battle of The various vyūhas (military formations) were studied by the Kauravas and Now I will pass on to an The Chakravyūha or Padmavyūha was a special formation ( First off, it is difficult to imagine the scale of this formation. The Mahabharat was one of the largest wars ever fought, and armies used a scale of measure known as Akshauhini to measure strength. As single Akshauhini consisted of 21,870 chariots, 21,870 elephants; 65,610 cavalry and 109,350 infantry[1]. Now, it is said that over the course of the war, 18-20 Akshauhini senas (armies) were killed. I do not have to do the calculations for you to figure out how huge the armies actually were. And this in a concentrated around the Kurukshetra, which is roughly 48 x 128 Km in area[2]. That makes a very dense war. So I imagine that there were enough men to spare for a formation like the Chakravyuha, more so when: • It was designed by Drona, one of the smartest tactician on the side of the Kauravas • The prize was (originally) Yudhisthira, who was the leader of the Pandavas The formation was designed as a spinning wheel (hence the “chakra” in t...

As always hard work, patience and quest for wisdom paid him well. He invested across many good companies ignored by the market and when the market understood the true potential of these companies, he had his reward. He became rich mentally and monetarily. He was ambitious and he wanted more. There is nothing wrong in being ambitious. Moreover as with everyone, he wanted fame and public recognition/appreciation of his abilities. Interviews with TV channels and publicity on social media were a very good way to earn fame and to market his investment management business. He started discussing his stocks and the investment thesis on various channels, public forums and social media. As stocks were really good, market took notice of fundamentals and agreed with Mr. P. His popularity reached heights. Due to his popularity, whenever he named a stock as a buy, it was regarded as god’s advice to riches. The moment the words came out of his mouth his fans scrambled upon each other to the buy the stock. This created a huge concentrated public buying in stocks which he has already bought into resulting in increase in stock prices over just weeks of his interview/social media announcement. That has some serious unavoidable consequences. And the journey to ruin started. First ones to exploit his popularity were th...
