Every year, a large number of people undertake the Amarnath Yatra, which is a pilgrimage to the sacred shrine of Amarnath, situated in the Himalayan region of Jammu and Kashmir. The Yatra is considered to be one of the most important religious events for Hindus, and it attracts thousands of pilgrims from all over the world every year. The journey involves a challenging trek through rough terrain, with steep climbs and unpredictable weather conditions. The highlight of the yatra is the darshan or glimpse of the naturally formed ice lingam, which is believed to be a manifestation of Lord Shiva. Image Source : PTI Amarnath Yatra 2023: Amit Shah to hold review meeting Amarnath Yatra 2023: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday reviewed the preparations for the Amarnath Yatra at a high-level meeting in the national capital, directing to ensure adequate security arrangements to make a comfortable pilgrimage for the pilgrims. Pointing out that it is the priority of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government that Amarnath pilgrims should have "comfortable darshan and should not face any difficulty", Shah directed the officials concerned to make adequate security arrangements on the entire route of 62 days long Amarnath Yatra, which will commence on July 1 and culminate on August 31. Shah also stressed the need for smooth arrangements on the route "from the airport and railway station to the yatra base camp, and directed to provide air service from Srinagar and Jammu at night for the convenience of the pilgrims". The Home Minister later directed to ensure adequate stock of oxygen cylinders and their refilling and also asked for the availability of additional teams of doctors. He further directed for an adequate number of medical beds and the deployment of ambulances and helicopters to meet any medical emergency. Amarnath Yatra is a 14-kilometer religious trek to Shri Amarnathji's Holy Cave in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Hundreds of thousands of people make this pilgrimage each year. The trek's dates are typically in July and August, and registration for the 2023 yatra has already begun. The trail is difficult not only because of the distance. The steep terrain and high altitudes of the Himalayas (which reach 14,000 feet) pose numerous health risks to devotees. As a result, the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board (SASB), which oversees the holy shrine, has issued a health warning to pilgrims. Amarnath Yatra 2023 will start on 1 July and go on till 31 August 2023. The pilgrimage will thus span 62 days. By India Today Information Desk: The commencement of the Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir is scheduled for July. Recently, the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board issued a health advisory outlining a set of food items that are prohibited during the pilgrimage. The prohibited foods consist of jalebi, halwa, pooris, and chole bhature. In addition, the advisory offers alternatives for langar organisations, shops, and stalls that cater to the dietary needs of pilgrims and service providers by providing and selling food. Authorities are expecting a minimum of 5,00,000 visitors to the Amarnath cave shrine this year. The pilgrimage to the sacred cave of Shri Amarnathji entails trekking at elevations reaching as high as 14,000 feet. Prior to embarking on the yatra, it is essential to review the list of prohibited food items as well as the permissible items that can be carried during the pilgrimage. Amarnath Yatra 2023: BRO To Complete Restoration of Yatra Tracks By June 15

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has announced that it will complete the restoration of the Amarnath Yatra track by June 15. The track was handed over to the BRO in September 2022 for maintenance and upgrade. The restoration works on the tracks began in March 2023 after the government released necessary funds. BRO said that snow clearance, widening of the track, restoration of foot bridges, and fixing of handrails were included in the scope of work. The tracks will be made available to the Civil Administration by June 15 as desired. “Earlier the yatra track from Baltal to Holy Cave was maintained by PWD (R&B) and the one from Chandanwari to Holy Cave was maintained by Pahalgam Development Authority. Restoration works on the tracks could, however, commence only in March 2023 after the necessary funds were released to BRO by the government. The basic scope of work involved snow clearance, widening of the track, restoration of all foot bridges, fixing of handrails, protection works at slide prone stretches and construction of breast walls and retaining walls for protection of the track," BRO said in a statement. “Concurrent to the progress of snow clearance of the tracks, additional plant equipment and manpower were employed for other restoration works.
