After seeing self-styled godman Asaram Bapu splashed across every platform, the world will now get to see the story of three courageous women who fought for justice against him, says the author of the book behind Asaram's upcoming biopic. Ushinor Majumdar has penned "God of Sin: The Cult, Clout and Downfall of Asaram Bapu" -- which will be cinematically adapted by filmmaker Sunil Bohra for his latest biopic on the disgraced godman and the women who took him down. "We've seen a lot on the godman both in print and television. This is the first book of its kind reporting on every aspect of the criminal empire of a bogus godman. Asaram led an interesting life. He also recalled meeting the godman at an airport. Talking about his impressions of the godman, he said that he was a good orator, but getting across all the complexities would ill be a tough task. The book introduces Asaram Bapu as someone who presided over a politically influential empire built on blind faith for decades. "Along with his son and heir, Narayan Sai, he has now become an example of everything that is wrong with self-styled godmen and the cults they spawn. "The two stand accused of sexual assaults on vulnerable devotees, land grabbing, money laundering, intimidation, exploitative black magic rituals and the horrific murder of witnesses who testified against them," it says. Manoj Bajpayee’s new OTT release, Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai which dropped on streaming platform Zee5 on May 23 has been received well by the audience. The movie is loosely based on controversial godman Asumal Sirumalani Harpalani AKA Asaram Bapu’s trial in the Jodhpur court in connection with the rape of a 16 year-old girl who lived in Asaram's ashram in Jodhpur. The plot is centered around advocate Poonam Chand Solanki, known as PC Solanki, who fought the trial against Asaram for nearly five years. Solanki fought bravely against legal stalwarts like senior lawyers like the late Ram Jethmalani, Salman Khurshid and Subramanian Swamy who represented Asaram in the higher courts. He joined the bar in 1996. His big case came in in 2002, when he filed a PIL in the Rajasthan High Court against the immersion of the Ganesh idols made of plaster of Paris in Gulab Sagar near Ghantaghar in Jodhpur, as it led to the death of a large number of fish.The court banned the immersion of idols in the lake. She was a student of Asaram at one of his ashrams, and her parents were his devotees. It was alleged that the girl was taken to Asaram after she had fallen ill and that Asaram Bapu was to “cure her of her evil”. She accused Asaram of inappropriately touching her private parts and asking her to perform oral sex on him when she was alone with him in a room.
