Gandhinagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said India will soon roll out the AYUSH visa category for those who come to the country seeking traditional ways of treatment. He said the government will launch the AYUSH mark to recognise traditional products which will give authenticity to quality AYUSH products of the country. Addressing the gathering of Global AYUSH Investment and Innovation Summit at Mahatma Mandir convention centre in Gandhinagar, he said the AYUSH mark will give confidence to the people of the world that they are purchasing quality AYUSH products. Describing the strides made by the Ayush sector, PM Modi said, "We are already witnessing unprecedented growth in the production of AYUSH medicines, supplements and cosmetics. In 2014, where the AYUSH sector was less than $3 billion, today it has increased to more than $18 billion.” He said that the Ministry of AYUSH has taken several major steps to encourage startup culture in the field of Traditional Medicines. The Ministry of Ayush on July 22,2022, issued a notification regarding the Ayush Mark Certification Scheme which was started in the year 2009 and it is run by the Quality Council of India (QCI). The important features of the scheme are: • It is a voluntary certification scheme for ASU&H products having two levels: Ayush Standard Mark and Ayush Premium Mark. • The Ayush Standard Mark is based on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for Ayurvedic, Siddha and Unani medicines (ScheduleT) as per Drugs and Cosmetic Rules, 1945. AYUSH Premium Mark is based on WHO’s GMP guidelines covering herbal medicines. • For any manufacturer to qualify for AYUSH Mark Certification, compliance to the domestic regulations is a pre-requisite. The products are certified post regulatory approval given by State Licensing Authority of the state government concerned. In 1995, with the objective of optimal and focused development of these systems, the Department of Indian Medicine and Homeopathy (ISM & H) was created in the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. In 2003, this Department was re-named as the Department of AYUSH. On 9 November, 2014, the Ministry of AYUSH was formed to revive the knowledge of the ancient systems of medicine and ensure the optimal development and propagation of the AYUSH systems of healthcare.
