Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of independence and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements. This Mahotsav is dedicated to the people of India who have not only been instrumental in bringing India thus far in its evolutionary journey but also hold within them the power and potential to enable Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of activating India 2.0, fuelled by the spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. The official journey of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav commenced on 12th March 2021 which started a 75-week countdown to our 75th anniversary of independence and will end post a year on 15th August 2023. In his Mann ki Baat program last month, PM Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative was gaining momentum as a people's movement. In that program, he appealed to people to change their social media profiles to that of the tricolour between August 2-15. "August 2 is a special day... I have changed my social media DP and I urge you to do so," Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is based on five themes - Freedom, Ideas, Resolve, Actions and Achievements. Under the 'Freedom' theme, the government has focused on bringing out stories of unsung heroes who made sacrifices in India's freedom struggle. Some of the events organized under this theme include - Birsa Munda Jayanti, Shaheed Diwas, Declaration of Provisional Government of Free India by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, besides others. The much-celebrated, and, to an extent, politicized Har Ghar Tiranga campaign is also being carried out under this theme of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The 'Ideas' theme 'focuses on programmes and events inspired by ideas and ideals that have shaped the country and will guide India as the nation navigates through the 'period of Amrit Kaal', the next 25 years towards the 100th anniversary of India's independence.
