The Mulanthuruthy grama panchayat won the award for the best grama panchayat in the State and Pappinissery and Marangattupilly grama panchayats won the second and third places. The award for the best block panchayat went to Perumpadappu, while Kodakara and Nedumangad won the second and third places. Tirurangadi won the award for the best municipality, while Wadakkanchery and Sulthan Bathery won the second and third places. Sreekrishnapuram in Palakkad district has won the Swaraj Trophy for the top grama panchayat in the state. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 25 lakh. The second position, which brings the winner Rs 20 lakh, was secured by Mulanthuruthy panchayat in Ernakulam district, while Pappinissery in Kannur district was placed third, taking home Rs 15 lakh. Among district panchayats, Pathanamthitta was placed at the top spot in the state, winning Rs 25 lakh. Ernakulam district panchayat took the second position, earning Rs 20 lakh. Meanwhile, in the awards for best block panchayats, Lalam in Kottayam came first, winning Rs 25 lakh. Palluruthy block in Ernakulam was selected as the second best, earning Rs 20 lakh, followed by Pulikeezhu in Pathanamthitta which won Rs 15 lakh. New Delhi: Panchayats have a significant role to play in the effective and efficient implementation of flagship schemes for transformation of rural India. There are many outstanding performers among Panchayats all over the country and such Panchayats need to be identified and encouraged. The Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR), Government of India has been incentivizing the best performing Panchayats recommended by the State Governments/UT Administrations since 2011-12. The awards are given on the National Panchayati Raj Day celebrated on 24th of April every year. Online Nominations are invited from Panchayats (or similar level local bodies) for National Panchayat Awards 2021 (Appraisal year 2019-2020) under the following categories: The Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Government of India will award Panchayats – Gram Panchayat (GP) Block Panchayat (BP), Zilla Panchayat (ZP) on 24 April 2021. Mulanthuruthy of Ernakulam district will receive the award for best grama panchayat. Elavally in Thrissur and Mangalapuram in Thiruvananthapuram came in second and third positions respectively in the category of grama panchayats. Meanwhile, the Pathanamthitta district made remarkable achievements in the list of Mahatma awards. Along with a trophy, Rs 25 lakh is awarded as first prize of Swaraj trophy in the state level and Rs 15 lakh for the second and Rs 10 lakh for the third prize winners. No cash prize will be given for the Mahatma awards. A reward of Rs 10 lakh will be given for first prize in district level Swaraj trophy and Rs 5 lakh as second prize.

Jagan presents National Panchayat Awards

Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy presented the National Panchayat Awards-2021 conferred by the Union Ministry of Panchayat Raj to the panchayats, mandals and districts on the occasion of the National Panchayat Raj Day on Saturday. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the awards ceremony through a video-conference. Union Panchayat Raj Minister Narendra Singh Thomar and Chief Ministers of various States took part. With the press of a button by the Prime Minister, cash incentives were credited to the bank accounts of the panchayats, mandals and districts that won awards. On the occasion, Mr. Modi said that village panchayats performed well during the COVID-19 crisis last year, and exhorted them to work with the same spirit now as the second wave of the pandemic hit the country. National Panchayat Raj Day is celebrated on April 24, marking the coming into force of the Constitution (73rd Amendment) Act, 1992, that vests certain powers with the local bodies. Andhra Pradesh won 15 awards in 2020 and 17 in 2021. It received 2nd best award among the States in the e-Panchayat category, two awards at the district level, and four and 10 awards at the mandal and panchayat levels respectively. The district-level awards carry a cash incentive of ₹50,000, mandal-level awards ₹25,000 and village-level awards ₹8,000 to ₹10,000 depending on the population. The awards were given away by President Droupadi Murmu to Ganjam collector Dibya Jyoti Parida and other officers of the districts. While Ganjam zilla parishad was awarded Rs 5 crore, Hinjilicut block received Rs 2 crore. Under Hinjilicut block, Kanchura and Syasan Ambagam gram panchayats received the ‘healthy panchayat’ (second position) and ‘clean and green panchayat’ (second position) awards respectively. With all the 6,200 persons above 18 years of age from 1,800 families having enrolled themselves under the central government sponsored old age pension scheme, life insurance and accident insurance schemes, Kulada GP under Bhanjanagar block of Ganjam district was awarded second position as a ‘socially secured panchayat’. The three panchayats were conferred the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Satat Vikas Puraskar by the Union Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Giriraj Singh. Under the special category of awards, Bonaigarh gram panchayat in Sundargarh received the Gram Urja Swaraj Vishesh Panchayat Puraskar and Carbon Neutral Vishesh Panchayat Puraskar.
