GT vs CSK: Who won yesterday's match in IPL 2023?

80 A successful final-over chase at the Narendra Modi Stadium to kick off Jadeja kept Chennai in the hunt, cleaning up Hardik Pandya (8) as the GT skipper missed his sweep. Gill’s fine knock ended when he toe-ended a pull off Deshpande to deep midwicket. Vijay Shankar contributed a handy 27 off 21 before Rashid and Tewatia provided the final flourish. Ruturaj Gaikwad’s brilliance lifts CSK to 178/7 Gaikwad slammed four fours and nine sixes in a terrific display of clean hitting as Chennai put up a competitive score on the board even as Gujarat kept chipping away at the other end. Bowling first after winning the toss, Mohammad Shami got GT off to a good start, cleaning up Devon Conway (1) with a full delivery that angled in from around the wicket. The CSK opener went for an extravagant drive but was beaten all ends up. The scalp was Shami’s 100th in the IPL. Gaikwad took on Josh Little in the fourth over, smashing him for a six and a four off consecutive deliveries. Moeen Ali took the attack to Shami as 17 came off the fifth over. The left-hander got a lbw decision against Rashid overturned in the last over of the powerplay. The GT leggie, however, had the last laugh as Moeen (23) nicked an attempted big hit to the keeper. Gaikwad carried on in impressive fashion. In the seventh over, he launched Pandya for maximum through the off-side. At the other end, Ben Stokes (7) was caught off a skidder from Rashid even as Gaikwad raced past his fifty in 23 balls, clobbering Alzarri ...

Al Ahly win African Champions League with draw at holders Wydad Casablanca

CASABLANCA, June 11 (Reuters) - Egyptian giants Al Ahly won the African Champions League after scoring a late equaliser to grab a 1-1 draw against Wydad Casablanca of Morocco in the second leg of the final on Sunday that secured a 3-2 aggregate victory. Defender Mohamed Abdelmoneim flicked on a corner from Ali Maaloul with 13 minutes remaining, with the ball looping over the home defence and into the corner of the net to hand the Cairo club a record-extending 11th title. After losing 2-1 in the Egyptian capital in last Sunday’s first leg, Wydad had been on course to win on the away goals rule after fullback Yahya Attiat Allah scored a 27th-minute free kick to hand the home team the lead in front of an expectant 50,000-strong crowd at Casabalanca’s Mohamed V Stadium. Wydad were looking to complete a dream season for Moroccan football, after the heroics of their national team in reaching the World Cup semi-final in December, but the Cairo club reaffirmed their status as Africa’s top side after losing to Wydad in last year’s final. Al Ahly have now won more than double the number of titles in Africa’s top club competition than their nearest rivals. This was their fourth successive final and sixth in the last seven editions. Abdelmoneim’s decisive goal came as time was running out and with Wydad looking firmly in control. Wydad’s goal evaded the defence as Attiat Allah’s free kick was missed by both attackers and defenders in the penalty area before nestling in the back of the...

French Open 2023 results: Novak Djokovic to face Casper Ruud in final after beating Carlos Alcaraz

World number one Carlos Alcaraz was playing in his first French Open semi-final French Open 2023 Venue: Roland Garros, Paris Dates: 28 May-11 June Coverage: Live text and radio commentaries of selected matches across BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra, the BBC Sport website and app Novak Djokovic is one win away from a record 23rd men's major title after moving into the French Open final by beating Carlos Alcaraz in a contest ruined by cramps for the Spaniard. He twice carried on after treatment but Serbia's Djokovic took full advantage to run away with a 6-3 5-7 6-1 6-1 win. Djokovic will face Casper Ruud, who beat Alexander Zverev, on Sunday. Norwegian fourth seed Ruud, who lost to Rafael Nadal in last year's final, won 6-3 6-4 6-0 against 22nd seed Zverev. The 26-year-old German was back in the semi-finals after suffering a serious ankle injury on court at the same stage 12 months ago, but was outclassed by Ruud, 24, in a straightforward victory. Ruud will aim to win his first major title at the third attempt, having also lost to Alcaraz in last year's US Open final. Coincidentally, before Zverev's return to the last four, this year's opening semi-final was also cut short by a physical issue - although thankfully top seed Alcaraz's problem was not of the same gravity as the German's injury which kept him out for several months. But it was enough to spoil an encounter which was blossoming into a classic. "First and foremost I have to say tough luck to Carlos," Djokovic said in his...

IND vs NZ 2023, 1st ODI: Who won yesterday’s India vs New Zealand match?

Batting first after winning the toss, the Men in Blue put up 349-8 in their 50 overs. Opener Shubman Gill top-scored with 208 off 149, becoming the fifth Indian to smash a double hundred in ODIs and the youngest ever. In response, Kiwi No. 7 Michael Bracewell slammed a spectacular 140 off 78. However, he could not take New Zealand over the finish line as the visitors were all out for 337 in the 50th over. Chasing 350, Bracewell, though, launched a stunning assault on the Indian bowlers, with help from Santner (57 off 45). The duo added 162 runs for the seventh wicket to bring New Zealand back into the contest. After Santner’s departure, Bracewell took the game into the 50th over of the innings. However, he was the last wicket to fall, trapped lbw by Thakur by a dipping yorker, with the Kiwis 13 runs short of the target. India vs New Zealand 2023: Who was Player of the Match in 1st ODI? Gill was exceptional with the bat, carrying the Indian innings on his shoulders. However, for his spectacular effort, the Men in Blue might not have ended up with a winning total. Pacer Siraj impressed yet again, claiming four wickets, including the big ones of Conway, Latham and Santner.

Novak Djokovic beats ailing Carlos Alcaraz: French Open semi

6d ago 17.41 BST I can’t lie to you, I’m feeling a little empty here – it’s like going to El Bulli and wading into an incredible hors d’oeuvre then, with mains plated and served, a faceless passer-by flips the table. OK, I’d eat whatever it was off the floor without compunction and with gusto, but you get what I mean. • • 6d ago 17.35 BST The first set and a half he thinks he played really well, but at the end of the second Alcaraz was better. He knew he had to take the ball early and attack because he had to be the aggressor – Alcaraz wants to be in control, so he had to do what his opponent does, only better. He’s proud to be in another final, is living a dream, loves playing at Roland-Garros, and he hopes that one day he’ll win the tournament again. • • 6d ago 17.33 BST Ridiculously, the crowd, disappointed at what happened to their match, boo Djokovic again then cheer him. He looks almost tearful as he commiserates with Alcaraz, saying physical problems are the last things you want. He told him at the net that he’s young and he’ll win plenty of these, plus he’s a really nice bloke, and showed great fighting spirit to keep at it instead of just turning it in. He reckons that towards the end of the second set he “wasn’t feeling fresh at all”, saying they went at it toe-to-toe so he just tried to stay present, not think about what was going on on the other side of the net, and he respects Carlos, hoping he’s back soon. • • 6d ago 17.28 BST Novak Djokovic [3] beats Carlos ...
