How To Start Biodegradable Plastic Bag Manufacturing Business?

Biodegradable plastic bags is growing industry sector that is boosted by strict regulations and ban on plastic bags. The global biodegradable plastic bags market is valued at USD 2.8 billion in 2020 and is projected to reach USD 8.6 billion by 2026. Every year, we use 5 trillion plastic bags and less than 1 percent are recycled. It may take upto 500 years for plastic bags to decompose completely. Hence governments across the globe are banning plastic bags and encouraging alternatives. Here in this blog we have given deep insights on how to start a biodegradable plastic bag manufacturing business. • Ban on plastic bags and several single use plastic items. • Consumer awareness on sustainable plastic solutions. • Government interest in reducing the dependence on petroleum. • Increase in dependence on environmentally friendly packaging from textile and food industries. • Adverse effects of plastic waste. • All these factors has made biodegradable plastic bag business as one of the Extrusion machine is used to shape the film using compostable granules. Generally one set of extruders and two pairs of machine heads are used to blow high density polyethylene (HDPE) and low density polyethylene (LDPE) plastic films. The plastic films are manufactured into flat bags and vest bags and find applications in textile and food industries for packaging. Here is the overview of how to make biodegradable plastic bags. Compostable plastic granules are used as raw material and are given as fe...

Bioplastics for a circular economy

Bioplastics — typically plastics manufactured from bio-based polymers — stand to contribute to more sustainable commercial plastic life cycles as part of a circular economy, in which virgin polymers are made from renewable or recycled raw materials. Carbon-neutral energy is used for production and products are reused or recycled at their end of life (EOL). In this Review, we assess the advantages and challenges of bioplastics in transitioning towards a circular economy. Compared with fossil-based plastics, bio-based plastics can have a lower carbon footprint and exhibit advantageous materials properties; moreover, they can be compatible with existing recycling streams and some offer biodegradation as an EOL scenario if performed in controlled or predictable environments. However, these benefits can have trade-offs, including negative agricultural impacts, competition with food production, unclear EOL management and higher costs. Emerging chemical and biological methods can enable the ‘upcycling’ of increasing volumes of heterogeneous plastic and bioplastic waste into higher-quality materials. To guide converters and consumers in their purchasing choices, existing (bio)plastic identification standards and life cycle assessment guidelines need revision and homogenization. Furthermore, clear regulation and financial incentives remain essential to scale from niche polymers to large-scale bioplastic market applications with truly sustainable impact. Polymers exhibit diverse mat...

The Truth About Bioplastics

Biodegradable bioplastic made from starch. Photo: Bioplastics are often touted as being eco-friendly, but do they live up to the hype? The world has produced over nine billion tons of plastic since the 1950s. 165 million tons of it have Traditional plastic is made from petroleum-based raw materials. Some say bioplastics—made from 20 percent or more of renewable materials—could be the solution to plastic pollution. The often-cited advantages of bioplastic are reduced use of fossil fuel resources, a smaller carbon footprint, and faster decomposition. Bioplastic is also less toxic and does not contain bisphenol A (BPA), a hormone disrupter that is often found in traditional plastics. Kartik Chandran, a professor in the Earth and Environmental Engineering Department at Columbia University who is working on bioplastics, believes that compared to traditional plastics, “bioplastics are a significant improvement.” However, it turns out that bioplastics are not yet the silver bullet to our plastic problem. How Biodegradable are Bioplastics? Since there is often confusion when talking about bioplastics, let’s clarify some terms first. Degradable – All plastic is degradable, even traditional plastic, but just because it can be broken down into tiny fragments or powder does not mean the materials will ever return to nature. Some additives to traditional plastics make them degrade more quickly. Photodegradable plastic breaks down more readily in sunlight; oxo-degradable plastic disinte...
