What losing Brandon King in free agency means for the Patriots

Almost two weeks after their last offseason transactions — acquiring wide receiver DeVante Parker via trade — the King, 28, originally joined the Patriots as an undrafted rookie in 2015. Spending seven seasons with the team, he appeared in a combined 85 regular season and playoff games and helped bring a pair of championships to New England. Moving forward, however, he will be wearing a different uniform. What does this mean for the Patriots? Let’s find out. New England’s special teams operation loses one of its most experienced players King originally arrived in New England back in 2015, and after starting his career on the team’s practice squad became a core member of its kicking game operation. Between his promotion to the 53-man squad in October of his rookie campaign and his departure, King saw action in 73 regular season games and 12 playoff contests. Despite missing two full seasons due to injury, he still played 1,629 snaps in the game’s third phase throughout his career. As a result, King was one of the most experienced special teamers on the Patriots’ roster: only four of his teammates — Matthew Slater, Devin McCourty, Justin Bethel, Cody Davis — have more kicking game snaps on their respective résumés. King needs to be replaced on five kicking game units Coming off a two-year stint on the sidelines, the Patriots did not ease King back into the mix in 2021. Quite the opposite, actually. When all was said and done, the veteran had been on the field for 322 of a po...

King, 28, has been with the Patriots since he entered the league as an undrafted free agent following the 2015 NFL draft. Since then, he has won two Super Bowl rings with New England. Deal hasn’t been signed yet, but Colts are headed there — Joel A. Erickson (@JoelAErickson) King entered the league with plenty of athletic upside after torching his pro day at Auburn ahead of the 2015 NFL draft. He measured in at 6-foot-2 and 217 pounds while running a 4.49 in the 40-yard dash, a 38-inch vertical and a 10’6″ broad jump. King has a been a mainstay on the special teams unit for Bill Belichick, playing no fewer than 65% of the snaps in that phase of the game in any season. He mi...

BIOGRAPHY Brandon King was born June 8, 1993 in Alabaster, Alabama He is an Outside Linebacker for the New England Patriots in the NFL. Brandon King played at the linebacker position at Thompson High School in Alabama and for the Highland Scotties of the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference. In his sophomore season, King recorded 118 tackles and was ranked as the fifth best safety in the national community college rankings. In July 2012, King verbally committed to transfer to the University of South Alabama and to play for the Jaguars football team. However, in January 2013, King announced that he had changed his mind, and on National Signing Day a month later, signed to play for the Tigers of Auburn University beginning in the 2013 FBS season. At Auburn, King played behind Robenson Therezie at the "star" safety position, seeing action in every game of his first season for the Tigers, albeit mostly on special teams. Halfway through his senior season, King was moved to defensive end by his coaches, who were looking for increased speed at the position. King was not ranked as...

East Cleveland Mayor Brandon King Appears to Survive Recall Effort by 28 Votes

King campaigning for re-election in 2017. East Cleveland Mayor Brandon King looks to have survived, by the thinnest majority, a recall effort Tuesday, keeping his mayoral seat by just 28 votes, according to unofficial results from the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections. There will be an automatic recount, based on the close margin, and some outstanding mail-in ballots may have not yet been counted. King ascended to office, as you might recall, after Gary Norton, East Cleveland's previous mayor, was recalled from office by voters in 2016. Kingwon re-election in 2017 and once again in 2021, but problems were never far away. Those leading the recall effort, including East Cleveland council members Korean Stevenson and Patricia Blochowiak, contended that King unlawfully spent public funds and enlisted the East Cleveland police department as a personal enforcement agency. The latter contention plays the starring role in a high-profile lawsuit filed by William Fambrough, an East Cleveland police vet participating in the recall effort who says cops targeted him for harassment during the 2021 election. At that time, Fambrough was campaigning for King's challenger, city councilwoman Juanita Gowdy and had equipped his van with speakers to broadcast messages supporting her. His vehicle was towed by East Cleveland police, and he was cited for a noise violation. Fambrough's subsequent lawsuit, which is ongoing, received national attention. The police actions were described as retaliator...

King made his first-class debut for Jamaica in 2014-15 but had a breakout season in 2018-19, when he racked up 630 runs in seven games, landing him a middle-order slot in the West Indies A side. King also debuted in the CPL in 2017 with St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, but flew under the radar until his switch to Guyana Amazon Warriors in 2019, where coach Johan Botha spotted his potential and bumped him up the order. He responded with 496 runs in 12 games, the most by anyone in the tournament that year, at a strike rate of 149, including an unbeaten 132 against Barbados Tridents, then the highest individual score in the CPL. A step-up to the national squad seemed the natural order of things, but though King produced acceptable, if not earth-shattering performances in limited-overs series against Afghanistan, India, Sri Lanka and New Zealand, he was dropped from the side in late 2020. On his recall a year later, he scored fifties in T20Is against Pakistan and England,...

Colts agree to sign Brandon King

Veteran special teamer Agent Sean Stellato announced that his client has agreed to a deal with the Colts. It is a one-year deal for King in Indianapolis. King signed with the Patriots after going undrafted in 2015 and played in 57 games over his first four seasons. He missed all of 2019 and 2020 after tearing his quad in August 2019, but returned to play in 16 regular season games last year. King played the first two defensive snaps of his career in those appearances and all of his other snaps have come on special teams. He has 52 tackles and a forced fumble in his regular season appearances and eight more tackles in a dozen postseason outings. With the most salary cap space for this free agent season and this is the best that Chris Ballard can do… The last two free agent signings are special teamers… No depth at the tackle position… Guard position..CB position.. and still needs some more defensive line depth also… Jim Irsay wants super bowls and Chris Ballard can’t even get close to an AFC South title touchback6 says: April 12, 2022 at 10:44 am Smart. Playing for a team that has a real QB (even and old real QB) is better than playing with someone who has already maxed out their potential. ____________________ Instead of using draft capital to acquire Wentz, the Colts should have used it to move up in the draft to pick Mac Jones.
