Pune News: An old bridge was brought down via a mega demolition operation to clear traffic congestion in the city at midnight. 600 kg explosives were used to demolish the old bridge. A controlled explosion early on Sunday morning destroyed a historic bridge in Pune's Chandani Chowk neighborhood. The bridge across the NH4 in the Chandani Chowk neighborhood of the city was constructed in the early 1990s. Several earthmover equipment and vehicles were put to use after the bridge was destroyed at 1 am on Sunday to bring down the remaining steel structures and lift the wreckage. The destruction was a part of a large-scale Chandni Chowk construction project intended to improve the flow of traffic at the important intersection. The old bridge in Maharashtra Pune's Chandni Chowk area is all set to be demolished on October 2, 2022, through a controlled explosion, a district official said on Tuesday. District Collector Rajesh Deshmukh said that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Pune district officials have completed the pre-demolition work of the bridge. He said, "The pre-demolition work of the bridge is completed. The existing old bridge will be demolished on October 2. The vehicular movement on the highway will be diverted. The road will be closed from 11 pm on October 1 till 8 am on the next day. The bridge will be taken down at 2 am on October 2." Pune: The old bridge in Pune’s Chandani Chowk is all set for demolition through a systematic explosion on October 2. The pre-demolition work of the bridge has been already completed, as per District Collector Rajesh Deshmukh, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Pune district officials.

Starting this week, there will be traffic diversions in place at Chandni chowk for the demolition of the old bridge. The Pune district administration has given a detailed plan to both Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad police to finalise the diversions for vehicular movement. While pre-demolition work has already started, the work of demolition will be carried out by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and Pune district administration with the help of the team from Noida-based Edifice Engineering consultancy company. Edifice Engineering is the same company which recently demolished the twin towers in Noida. The actual demolition of the old bridge will be carried out between September 12 and 15. Pune: An old bridge in Pune’s Chandani Chowk area was demolished through a controlled implosion at 1 am on Sunday. The bridge was constructed in the early 90s on the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway (NH4) in the Chandani Chowk area of the city. Following the demolition, several earthmover machines and trucks were pressed into action to bring down the hanging structures and lift away the debris, news agency PTI has reported. The razing of the bridge was part of an ambitious Chandni Chowk development project that is aimed at improving the traffic situation at the key junction. A multi-level flyover will come up at the junction and the work towards that effect is undergoing. The planned demolition of the bridge generated a great deal of curiosity among the local people.
