Metrorail

Metrorail provides safe, clean, reliable transit service for more than 600,000 customers a day throughout the Washington, DC area. The system is the second busiest in the United States, serving 98 stations in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia. The Metrorail system has six color-coded rail lines: Red, Orange, Silver, Blue, Yellow, and Green. The layout of the system makes it possible to travel between any two stations with no more than a single transfer. Finding the Metro Station If you're driving, look for the large Metro signs to direct you to stations. Look for tall brown columns with a large "M" identifying the station entrances. Colored stripes around the column show which lines serve the station. • • What's the Fare? To determine the fare between two stations, visit your starting station's page and use the Metrorail Fares fare finder in the middle of the page. Stand behind the bumpy tiles along the platform's edge. Watch for flashing lights along the platform's edge, which signal a train's arrival. Station signs will also alert you to a train's arrival. NEW | Boarding the Train Check the destination of the train, which is posted above the side windows. Stand clear of the train car doors and let riders get off before you board. A 39-storey commercial office tower situated above the future Australia’s largest public transport project, the Metro will revolutionise travel in Sydney. The office tower is another key fixture in the development, and will provide modern office and retail solutions for a city that continues to grow. Rob Stokes, NSW’s minister for planning and public spaces says the tower will be integrated with the station to create a connected hub of offices, shops and world-class public transport that will create many employment opportunities in the process. “This approval means up to 620 construction jobs and 4,000 operational jobs once the building is complete which is great news for NSW as we continue to recover from the pandemic,” he says. “The Pitt Street North development will provide nearly 55,000 square metres of commercial and retail space, creating new places for office workers, commuters, visitors and CBD residents. “As life starts to return to normal, we want to create new and exciting places to draw people back into the CBD whilst boosting the economy at the same time.” Spanning 55,743sqm both below and above ground, the station will relieve the congested areas of Town Hall Station, and will provide commuters with more transport options for a bustling city CBD. Minister for Transport Andrew Constance says the construction of the whole Metro project provides opportunities to create new hubs and precincts. “The Sydney Metro City and South-west mega project is not only changin...

U Street Metro project from Eastbanc, Jamestown advances

Having garnered the neighborhood support it needed, a development team is preparing to seek final approvals for its prominent U Street redevelopment. A joint venture of D.C.-based Eastbanc Inc. and Atlanta-based Jamestown L.P. have spent the past year and a half working with neighbors and other groups to line up a community benefits agreement and Advisory Neighborhood Commission support for their redevelopment of the office building at 1250 U St. NW, ahead of obtaining the final green-light on its planned-unit development. The project has "The pandemic has highlighted a need for dynamic building," said Anthony Lanier, founder of EastBanc. "The close-in neighborhoods will have a leg up to those who are really the main core. The interaction and intermingling of office work and play is much more profound. You can't rebuild a city over a long weekend." Eastbanc and Jamestown have tightened their vision for the development, which will sit directly above the U Street/African-American Civil War Memorial/Cardozo Metro station. The current plan is for a nine-story building with 55 to 67 hotel rooms and 117 to 143 apartments at 13th and U streets, with a 15-unit row of townhouses on what's now the Temperance Alley Garden. Two of the townhomes would be affordable at 80% of median family income. In the U Street building, 15% of the residential gross floor area, and 12% of the penthouse gross floor area, would be affordable at 60% and 50% median family income, respectively. The project...
