NEW DELHI: India logged 174 new coronavirus cases, pushing the tally to 4.49 crore, while the active cases decreased to 3,193, the Union Health Ministry said on Monday. The death toll rose to 5,31,882 with two more fatalities, which includes one reconciled by Kerala, data updated at 8 am by the ministry stated. The active cases comprise 0.01 per cent of the total infections. The national Covid-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.81 per cent, according to the health ministry's website. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,44,56,681. The case fatality rate was 1.18 per cent.

The covid pandemic which started in early 2020 has killed around 5,31,891 people in India so far. Health experts say that the number of hospital admissions have also come down as lesser number of covid cases are being reported. However, elderly people with comorbidities are still vulnerable to the infection. Furthermore, doctors have recommended such people to take their booster dose if not done yet and follow covid appropriate behaviour. In addition to this, scientists say that people in India have developed hybrid immunity (due to vaccination and natural infection), therefore, the present covid-19 variants will not be able cause hospitalization and severity since it is mild in nature. A total of 44,458,447 people have recovered from the infection so far with 188 patients recovering in the past 24 hours. The current recovery rate is around 98.81 %. The health ministry has advised the state governments to examine the situation of covid-19 at micro level (district &sub-districts) and maintain focus on implementation of necessary measures for prompt and effective management of covid-19, ensuring effective compliance. The government has asked the states to follow the Test-Track Treat-Vaccination strategy. Around 71,703 tests were conducted in a day taking the total number of tests to 92.93 crore.
