Cyrus Mistry, a former Tata Sons chairman, was travelling in a Mercedes GLC Sports Utility Vehicle with Darius Pandole, a former independent director in the Tata Group, his wife Anahita Pandole and brother Jehangir Pandole. CCTV footage shows the car speeding towards a checkpoint 20 minutes before the accident on a bridge over river Surya, passing the Dapchari checkpoint. The car would go on to hit a road divider on the bridge at Charoti Naka, around 135 km from Mumbai. An eyewitness, who works at a mechanic's shop, saw the accident. He rushed to the spot after hearing a loud crash. Anahita Pandole, a Mumbai-based gynaecologist, was driving the car. The police say she may have lost control of the car while overtaking another vehicle at a high speed, from the wrong side, and hit a road divider. Apart from this, the three-lane road suddenly changes into two lanes on the bridge on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway, which is also believed to be one of the causes of the accident. Four persons were travelling in the car, two of whom died on the spot including Mistry, while the other two were shifted to the hospital. "At first, two patients were brought which included Cyrus Mistry and Jahangir Dinsha Pandol. Both of them were brought dead. The locals who brought them told us that Cyrus Mistry had died on the spot. Jahangir Dinsha Pandol was alive on the spot, however, he died during the transit. Meanwhile, the autopsies of the ex-Tata Group chairman and his friend Jehangir Pandole have revealed that they died of ‘severe head trauma and multiple external and internal injuries to vital organs’. The remains of both the deceased were brought to the state-run JJ Hospital from Kasa sub-district hospital in Palghar around midnight on Monday. The autopsies were completed by 2:30am. A CCTV video has surfaced showing Mistry’s Mercedes car on the road, moments before the fatal accident on Sunday afternoon. The video at the Dapchari toll naka on the Maharashtra-Gujarat border shows the car entering the state at 2:10pm and leaving the toll at 2:12pm. It then proceeds on to the highway towards Charoti.
