Mistry was traveling from Ahmedabad to Mumbai when his car hit the divider. There were four people in the car out of which two succumbed to injuries. Sources told ET that initial assessment has revealed that there doesn’t seem to be a defect either in the road engineering or the vehicle. They added that the dual airbags affixed to the driver and the front passenger seat can be seen during the preliminary examination of the car but no such airbags are seen at the rear seat. Also, those seated in the rear seat weren’t wearing their seat-belts. These sources further added that the probe has also revealed that the vehicle was overspeeding and the driver was trying to overtake from the left side, however she lost control and rammed into the parapet of the bridge. Cyrus Mistry was travelling with three other people, Darius Pandole, his wife Anahita and Dariu’s brother Jehangir. Pandole was an independent director of Tata group of companies. He had opposed a resolution moved by promoter Tata Sons seeking removal of Mistry as the company’s chairman. Anahita is a leading gynaecologist at Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital. According to the police, the Pandoles were returning from the Udvada Parsi fire temple in Valsad in Gujarat and Mistry decided to join the Pandoles while returning to Mumbai.
