Chennai Super Kings opener Devon Conway hit the 1000th six of the IPL 2023 season against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday. Co-incidentally, the first six of the season had also come from a CSK batter – Ruturaj Gaikwad. IPL 2023: Conway struck the six, the 1000th of the season, in Match 67 of the IPL 2023 edition. The left-hander came down the track to Lalit Yadav in the second over of the contest and sent the ball soaring over the bowler’s head for a maximum. The ball crashed straight into the sightscreen and there was no way it could have been cut off. In terms of travelling the distance, Faf also holds the record for the biggest six of the season. His 115-metre monster hit came against Lucknow Super Giants in Bengaluru. IPL 2023, CSK vs DC: Devon Conway narrowly escapes after Delhi Capitals didn’t use DRS for caught behind

By India Today Sports Desk: Devon Conway narrowly escaped from getting out in Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) match against the Delhi Capitals (DC) on Wednesday, May 10 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. In the first ball of the second over, Khaleel Ahmed shaped the ball away from Conway, who went for an expansive cover drive. The Capitals thought about using the DRS, but in the end, didn’t take it. Phil Salt, the wicketkeeper, said that he couldn’t hear an edge after which David Warner didn’t use the review with the fear of wasting one. Reprieve for Conway. In the very next over, Conway again had the rub of the green go his way. Lalit Yadav bowled one from around the wicket and Conway went for a full-blooded sweep shot. But he was hit on the pads after which DC appealed strongly for an LBW. However, the the on-field umpire didn’t pay heed to the appeal and didn’t raise his finger. This time around, DC went for the review, but luck didn’t favour them yet again. Replays showed that there was a spike when the ball passed the bat. Nevertheless, Conway ran out of luck soon after. In the first ball of the fifth over, Axar Patel accounted for his wicket. Conway went for a sweep shot and was hit on the pads. This time around, the on-field umpire gave him out. The CSK batter used the review, but to no avail. Conway struggled throughout his brief stay in the middle, scoring 10 runs off 13 balls with one four as CSK lost their first wicket with their score at 32 in 4.1 overs.

IPL 2023: Try and create strike

CSK reached the hefty total on the back of three rapid innings from opener Devon Conway and middle-order batters Ajinkya Rahane and Shivam Dubey. Conway was the top-scorer hitting 83 runs of 45 balls in the game. The New Zealand batter spoke to the media after the match and said that the idea was to bat at the strike-rate of 200 consistently. “Try and create the strike rate of 200, I didn’t actually manage to achieve that but others like Ajinkya and Shivam, Rayudu and Moeen Ali at the end, they all chipped in with really good strike rates and helped us reach to a very competitive total. That’s probably the method on a wicket like this, which is good to bat,” Conway told the media in the post-match press conference. IPL 2023: “Before going in the field, MS told us that we are going to be put under pressure at times. They had brilliant momentum. Faf and Glenn put us under pressure but we always felt that by having 200 plus on the board and if we get a couple of wickets, we can always bounce back. For our bowlers it was staying clear, staying patient, and when the opportunity comes take it from both hands,” Conway concluded.

“Many cups of chai and a can of Redbull,” Devon Conway reveals how he kept himself awake for three

The IPL 2023 final between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) was played over three days. While incessant rain abandoned the final on the original date of May 28, it played spoilsport for quite a while on reserve day as well. In a dramatic turn of events, rain interrupted the match when CSK were 4/0 off 3 balls while chasing the 215-run target. After rain halted the game for a considerable period, the MS Dhoni-led side was given a revised target of 171 in 15 overs. As a result, the match went late into the night, finishing around 1:30 AM IST and it was the third day of the final to be precise. No wonder, the players found it hard to stay awake and CSK opener Devon Conway had several cups of tea and a can of Red Bull to keep himself alert. “Very unique - an emotional rollercoaster," Conway told ESPNcricinfo while sharing his experience of playing in the IPL 2023 final. “I had many cups of chai just to keep myself going that late at night when we were all waiting during the rain break, not knowing how many overs we’d get in our chase. It was a little unsettling. Just before going in to bat, Mike Hussey (batting coach) told me, ‘Mate, think you want a can of Red bull to stay awake?’ It was hard to stay mentally switched on, given how late it was. So I had a can of Redbull to get sharp and awake again. It ensured I was switched on from the first ball." The drinks did wonders for Conway, who slammed 25-ball 47 to help CSK clinch a record-equalling fifth IPL title...

IPL 2023: Devon Conway scores third fifty of the tournament as CSK make easy work of 135

By India Today Sports Desk: Chennai Super Kings opening batter Devon Conway scored his third successive fifty in the 2023 Indian Premier League. Conway scored 77 runs in 57 balls as CSK beat SunRisers Hyderabad by seven wickets at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. The New Zealand batter started the second innings in positive fashion, with him and opening partner Ruturaj Gaikwad scoring at a healthy run-rate. Chasing 135 runs, the two batters scored 60 runs in the powerplay to put the visitors under pressure. Soon after his fifty, CSK lost their first wicket after Conway hit a shot straight back at fast-bowler Umran Malik, who got a touch on the ball before it rattled the non-striker’s stumps, ruling Gaikwad run-out. However, Conway continued his onslaught on the SRH bowlers, rotating strike regularly while also dispatching the loose deliveries. Conway remained unbeaten on 77 runs in 57 balls to guide CSK to a comfortable seven-wicket win vs SRH. The likes of Harry Brook, Aiden Markram, Rahul Tripathi all failed to score big runs despite getting off to good starts, as SRH managed just to put up just 134 for 7 on the scoreboard after 20 overs. After beating SRH, CSK will turn their focus on Kolkata Knight Riders, with the two sides set to lock horns on April 23.
