Actor Alia Bhatt's maiden production venture Darlings will premiere on Netflix on August 5, the streamer announced today. The dark comedy film which marks the directorial debut of writer Jasmeet K Reen, also stars Shefali Shah, Vijay Verma and Roshan Mathew. Meanwhile, the film’s teaser was also released today. Sharing the same on her social media handles, Alia wrote, “It’s just a tease Darlings.“ Darlings explores the lives of a mother-daughter duo trying to find their place in the city, seeking courage and love in exceptional circumstances while fighting against all odds. New Delhi [India], July 23 (ANI): Bollywood actor Alia Bhatt, on Saturday, dropped a string of new ‘mysterious’ posters from her upcoming dark comedy film ‘Darlings’. Taking to Instagram, the ‘Raazi’ actor shared the posts, which she captioned, “Abhi ke liye ye photos dekho. Monday ko battings dikhaungi. #DarlingsOnNetflix”. In the first poster, the ‘Highway’ actor can be seen giving a strange look to her on-screen mother Shefali Shah. Both the actors donned an Indian salwar-kameez and could be seen sitting inside a car. In another poster, Alia can be seen giving another strange look to her on-screen husband Vijay Varma as he holds her hand. In the third poster, the ‘Super 30’ actor could be seen having a conversation with actor Roshan Mathew as he got his hand tied up with a rope. Alia Bhatt is gearing up for the theatrical release of the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed period drama, Gangubai. While the promotions are going on in full swing, we have exclusively learnt that her next after Gangubai will see a direct to digital release. According to our sources, Darlings, which marks her debut as a producer alongside Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment, will see a direct to digital premiere on Netflix this summer. “It’s a dark comedy and the makers felt that the film will be able to reach its target audience through the OTT medium. The conversations were on with multiple players and it's finally Netflix, who has bagged the exclusive streaming rights. The film has been sold for a sum of Rs 80 crore, thereby making it one of the biggest deals for a female led film,” revealed a source close to the development. The film will stream on the digital platform this summer and is currently in the post production stage. The source informs that it’s in the similar zone as the soon to be released Gehraiyaan fronted by Deepika Padukone, which fetched in the range of Rs 80 to 85 crore for an Amazon Prime premiere. It was a part of Dharma Productions deal with the streaming platform, who reaped huge profits from Shershaah.
