By Manasvi Gupta NCERT has dropped several topics and chapters from NCERT Textbooks for classes 6 to 12 for the academic session 2022-23 in an effort to ease the content load on students as COVID-19 had affected their studies in the last two years. Notable topics including references to the 2022 Gujarat Riots, the Cold War, and Mughal courts have been deleted from the updated Class 12 NCERT Book . Topics like Industrial Revolution from the Class 11 Textbook and a few Dalit writers from the Class 7 Textbook have been dropped as well. In the process of syllabus rationalisation this year, which was kicked off in December 2021, NCERT has removed 30% of the syllabi. NCERT dropped content from Classes 6 to 12 textbooks to avoid “overlapping” or similar content that has been included in lower or higher classes. The decision was also taken depending on the difficulty level of topics and to remove irrelevant content in the present context and content which is easily accessible to students through self-learning or peer-learning and does not require much assistance from teachers.
