Baidyanath Jayadurga Shakti Peeth, Deogarh

Jayadurga Temple at Baidyanath is the place where Sati’s Heart had fallen. Here Sati is worshipped as Jai Durga and Lord Bhairav as Vaidyanath or Baidyanath. The Shakthi Peeth is popularly known as Baidyanath Dham or Baba Dham. Since the heart of Sati fell here, the place is also called as Hardapeetha. Lord Bhairav as Vaidyanath is worshipped as one of the important twelve Jyotirlingas. Within the campus, Jayadurga Shaktipeeth is present exactly opposite to the main temple of Vaidyanath. Both the temples are connected by red colored silk threads in their tops. There is a belief that the couple who binds these two tops with the silk will have a happy family life by the blessings of Lord Shiva and Parvathi. The temple is 72 feet tall white plain old structure with spreaded small temples dedicated to various Gods. Within the temple the idols of Durga and Parvathi are present on a rock stage. People usually climb it up and offer flowers and milk to the goddesses. Many Tantriks worshiped Jayadurga and got her blessings. Here Jaganmata is worshiped in two forms. The first one being Tripura sundari / Tripura bhairavi and the second one being Chinnamasta. Tripura sundari is worshiped with Ganesh as Rishi and Chinnamasta is worshiped with Ravanasura as Rishi. Jai durga Shakti Peeth is known as Chitabhumi. It is said that while lord Shiva was wandering in the universe with the body of Sati, heart of Sat had fallen at this place. That time, lord Shiva performed the cremation of her h...

The temple is easily accessible from Private Bus Stand of Deogarh. It is situated at a distance of 3 Kms to the left of N.H – 200 under the Chikini Ghati approachable by all season roads. The temple was constructed by Deba Durllav Deb, a scion of the royal family during the rule of Raja Brajasundar Deb in the year 1854 and is one of the oldest temples of Bamanda. The presiding deity is Lord Shiva. The Lingam or the phallic icon is “Swayambhu‟ (natural formation) and not implanted. The temple is constructed following the architectural pattern of Kalinga style of temples. There is a legend attached to this temple about discovery of the Lingam and has almost become folklore. It says, one day Deba Durllav Deb went to the forest for hunting. On sighting a herd of spotted deer he strung an arrow and shot. He missed the target. But surprisingly, the arrow struck a phallic stone and streams of blood oozed out nonstop. At night Deba Durllav Deb had a dream in which Lord Shiva appeared and ordained that the place is his abode and a temple may be erected for worship. A temple came up, being situated in the forest the presiding deity was named Jhadeshwar and this temple is considered a siddha-pitha, receiving people from all over Odisha to worship lord Jhadeswar and Maa Bhairabi for fulfilment of their desire.

Baba Baidyanath Temple, Deoghar

It was wonderful to get the blessings of Baba Baidyanath. Evening aarati experience is amazing. We took train from Kolkata and reached Jasidih and was easy to get an auto to hotel which was close to the temple. Food is also good near temple. You are allowed to touch shivling and offer water before 4pm ish. (you shouldn't eat salt before doing that but no one would ask). Stayed there for 1.5 days. Spent next day exploring nearby places such as Basukinath temple, Trikut Parvat, Tapovan, Naulakha mandir. (takes 5-6 hours leisurely ) The temple management is pathetic. Pandas are goons (believe me I have seen pandas at other places too). Police are helpless and mentioned pandas don't fear anyone as they have full support of government/administration. I had visited Kashi Vishwanath and management their was superb. Administration should learn from other places. But it's clear that Jharkhand government doesn't even care about such significant place for Hindu. There are no signs on where the line starts, where to take off footwear. pandas will lie, misdirect you, be rude and everyone is after money. Tapovan is hidden gem. Pay 100 / 200rs to guide and he would take you to the Hanumanji temple on hills, path to it is very adventurous and it's only for fit people. be careful of monkeys. they can take stuff from your pocket. Ropeway is closed on Trikut Parvat, you can skip this places if you are short on time. Dibine experience. Impressive ambience and orderly arrangement. Good arrange...

It is popularly known as the Dashavatara temple after the relief panels depicting various incarnations of the Hindu deity Vishnu. As suggested by its architectural ruins, the temple is constructed in the panchayatana scheme of five shrines. The intricate sculptural work demonstrated in the frieze and walls of the shrines, which contain high-reliefs illustrating episodes from Vaishnava myths; the roof form ornamented with gavakshas; and the repeating pot-and-foliage motif make the temple an exemplary monument of Gupta art and architecture. The central shrine of the temple is topped with a pyramidal shikhara, that would have originally been about 40 feet tall. It sits atop a square plinth, or jagati, with stairs on each side, and the ruins of smaller shrines at each of its four corners. The plinth itself bore mouldings and frieze...
