Describe a Time When You Were Stuck in a Traffic Jam IELTS Speaking Question – Gold Eagle Education

After several months of being laid-off, I was ecstatic to receive a job interview invitation through email. On that day, I wore my best suit and tie and hit the road several hours earlier to make sure not to get late driving to the neighboring city. An hour away from my destination, I slowed down when I noticed that all the vehicles on the four lanes of the highway on sight had stopped. I pulled over two meters away next to a truck and asked the motorist to my left what was holding up the traffic. He told me that there was a collision and we couldn’t pass until the victims were rescued and the debris was cleared. I sat on the hood idly for an hour waiting for any movement of vehicles up ahead. However, the traffic remained still with no signs that the road would be cleared soon. I searched the internet with my phone to look for an alternative route and there was a dirt road through the nearby mountains. I had never used that path before because there had been lots of accidents with vehicles falling off the mountainside due to lack of guard rails. Despite that, I mustered some courage and decided to take the detour so that I wouldn’t miss my interview. While I was turning my vehicle around, an SUV sped to my rear and it was a few inches away from getting hit with my bumper while I was backing up. I got off the car, slammed my door shut and went to the driver’s side window yelling at him. In my rage, I cursed at him and called him names a couple of times and only stopped whe...

IELTS Speaking part 2 Describe a time when you spent a long time in a traffic jam You should say: • When and where did it happen? • How long you were in the traffic jam? • What you did while waiting? • And explain how you felt when you were in that traffic jam Sample Answer I would like to tell you about a time when I got stuck in the traffic for what felt like ages. It happened quite a long time ago when I was a university student. I was living in the dormitory and one day I took the bus to the city center in order to sit the test of proficiency in Korean. Unfortunately, the bus was chock-a-block with people, so I couldn’t find a seat and had to stand during the whole ride. As if things weren’t bad enough, the bus was mired in gridlock at one of the roundabouts along the way. I was extremely exhausted having to stand for hours in a cramped bus with no air conditioning. Later there was even a feeling of worry and frustration when I realized the bus hadn’t moved an inch in thirty minutes, and I couldn’t do anything about it. I looked out of the window and saw the road was bumper to bumper, with cars honking and people upset. The congestion made me late for the exam and I ended up not being allowed to enter the test room. Honestly, to describe that as a painful experience in my life feels like an understatement because the test was crucially important to me, and I had burnt the candle at both ends to study for it. Eventually, I had to register for a new test and tried to arr...

Ordinarily, there is always traffic congestion in Mumbai. The traffic jam may last for an uncertain period. There are highways and link roads full of traffic jams during peak hours. It was Monday, and I was on my way to the office. Though I started for the office early in the morning, it took over two hours for me to reach my office, which is located in Powai, Mumbai. Without any exact reason, there was traffic congestion on the highway. I tried to take some shortcuts through the Aarey colony, which leads directly to Powai Lake, but it took over 20-30 minutes to get on the Aarey road due to roads under construction.
