Approved Training Programs

BONENT has approved specific nephrology educational programs. If you successfully complete one of the training programs listed below. You may apply to take a BONENT exam that corresponds to the type of program you completed (i.e. patient care technician, hemodialysis nurse, peritoneal dialysis nurse, or biomedical technician). After Completing an Approved Training Program: You must submit the standard BONENT exam application with a copy of your high school diploma and your certificate from the BONENT Approved Program. Dialysis Technician

Expand your career skills with noncredit training Under the supervision of physicians and registered nurses, Dialysis Technicians operate kidney dialysis machines, prepare dialyzer reprocessing and delivery systems, as well as maintain and repair equipment. • Work with patients during dialysis procedures • Monitor and record vital signs and administer local anesthetics and drugs as needed • Assess patients for complications that occur during the procedure • Prepare to take necessary emergency measures including administering oxygen and performing Basic Cardiopulmonary resuscitation • Train patients for at-home dialysis treatment and provide them with the emotional support they need for self-care. This program does not include a national or state certification as part of its overall objectives. Federal Medicare law dictates individuals have 1,000 to 1,500 hours of work experience to sit for the exam. Additionally there is no student internship or clinical rotation offered as part of this program. Reading Comprehension and Mathematics assessment testing is required prior to registration.
