The ministry of road transport and highways on Friday has issued a draft notification for the accreditation of driving training centres which will allow drivers to get their licenses without appearing for a test if they are from those particular centres. New Delhi: The CBI has registered a case against unknown officials of the Regional Transport Offices or RTOs in New Delhi for issuing driving licences to applicants without conducting a driving test. The Central Bureau of Investigation probe has revealed that officers in the RTOs were using touts for issuing the licences without a driving test. These touts were charged Rs 37,000 from each applicant for issuing these licences, according to the probe. The central probe agency has arrested Baljeet Kaur, an alleged tout, based on a complaint from a resident of Delhi who was approached by Ms Kaur to pay Rs 37,000 for a driving license without the test.

New Delhi: The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has notified new rules for driving training centres. Under the rules, the candidates who successfully pass the test at any accredited driver training centre will be exempted from the driving test requirement at the time of applying for a driving licence, which is currently being taken at the Regional Transport Office (RTO). The rules, which come into force from 1 July, will allow only those private driving training schools to function which have been granted accreditation either by the state transport authority or central government. A senior official in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said, “This is one such step in tackling the high number of road accident-related deaths that take place each year. We need only skilled and trained people driving on roads, who are aware of rules and are cautious.” According to a road ministry The official also said that only those training centres will be allowed to function which have been given the go-ahead by the authorised agency. New Delhi | Jagran Auto Desk: Delhi Government’s transport department has reduced the Driving License slots by half whereas the applicants for a permanent driving license have been allowed to appear in driving test on any automated track. The government has made this decision citing Coronavirus associated and the risks related to the spread of the virus. The slots booked during lockdown to get priority: Officials told Dainik Jagran that about a thousand applicants used to receive the slot bookings prior to the pandemic. However, these slots have now been reduced to half. At present, 50 per cent of the slots will be reserved for those who made their bookings during the lockdown. Applicants can give a test on any automated test driving track: The transport department, in an order released on June 6 categorically stated that an applicant applying for a permanent driving license can appear in the driving test on any automated testing driving track.
