Srinagar to Drung Waterfall

If you are planning a winter trip to Kashmir, then a journey from Srinagar to Drung Waterfall must find a place in your itinerary. Located about 15 kilometers from Gulmarg and 42 kilometers from Srinagar, this waterfall was largely unknown until a few years ago but is now one of the most popular winter destinations of Kashmir. What is so special about Drung Waterfall? Well, in the summer season, it looks quite ordinary and not even that pretty in my opinion. But in the winter season, as the temperature in the valley drops, the water of this fall starts to freeze. By early January, the entire face of the mountain that it falls from is covered by a thick layer of ice. The water still continues to flow down but is surrounded by huge icicles and snow and looks quite majestic. I was recently on a winter trip to Kashmir and had the chance of visiting Drung Waterfall on the third day of our trip. The post below is a brief narration of our visit and experience. Actually a disappointment which seem to be an enticing and enthralling experience. There is no waterfall as such, which apparently used to be. A dam has constructed across it and the electricity being produced, so the water has been contained and channelled for it. Small streams here and there, still exists though. Apparently they release the water now and than but was not a case for more than an hour we spent there. Drung waterfall is in drung valley in tangmarg. We went to drung valley in the mid of March, 23. We drove to the top of the valley using ATV. There was a slight drizzle throughout and the valley was very beautiful with clouds lying very low. we spend around one and half hour in the valley. Worth visit. We went on 15th Feb 2023, and the view was totally amazing. As it was winters, the waterfall was Half Frozen and half was flowing and creating a lovely view. Apart from taking lovely photos there, you can also do Snow Bicycle activity there for kids. As it was winters, we had to take a 4 X 4 cab (you can take Chain taxi) and Paid 1500 from Tanmarg.
