That was actually 10x better than this piece of dreck! I only watched the first half hour of this movie and then couldnt get up fast enough to take the Tape out of my VCR. Thank God that i recorded it off of HBO and didnt rent the movie. I would have wanted my money back. The characters are lame, the dialogue is even worse. DId a 10 yr old write this script? When she wants to give rights to the common people, she's opposed by the Council of Mages, led by the evil Profion. They demand that she hand over the scepter. She refuses and, anticipating a conflict, both sides try to get their hands on the legendary Rod of Savrille, which would let them control red dragons. Teenage thieves Ridley and Snails try to rob the Sumdall magic school. They're caught by a young apprentice named Marina, just as Profion's assistant Damodar attacks the library wizard, to get his map to the Rod of Savrille. Marina, Ridley, and Snails manage to escape with the map, and join with a dwarf named Elwood. They discover that to enter the tomb with the Rod, they need a ruby key called the "Eye of the Dragon." Ridley finds it in a deadly maze in the thieves' guild in Antius, but Damodar arrives and captures Marina and the map before they can flee. The rest of the group escape, only to be captured by the elf Norda, a paladin who is working for the Empress. Realizing they are fighting for the same cause, they free Marina and get the map back, although Snails dies in the attempt. The young heroes destined to stop this cataclysmic event are Marina Pretensa ( Zoe McLellan), an eager but inept apprentice Justin Whalin and Marlon Wayans), two equinophobic Lee Arenberg), and the mysterious dark-skinned Kristen Wilson) sent by Empress Savina first to stop the heroes, but later to assist them. They are pursued along the way by Damodar ( Bruce Payne); Profion's head enforcer, and leader of Izmer's elite fighting unit, the Crimson Brigade. As part of their quest, the heroes are required to recover a magic gemstone from the Master of the Antius City Thieves's Guild, Xilus (played by Richard O'Brien). Reactions [ ] Critical reaction to the film is largely negative. The film has a score of 11% at Rottentomatoes.com and is rated poorly on the Internet Movie Database. Reasons given for this include the writing, direction, and camerawork of its producer/director, Courtney Solomon, and the acting of Marlon Wayans, Jeremy Irons, and Thora Birch. The movie was also not embraced by fans of the original role-playing game.
