Delhi education minister Atishi Marlena at India Today Conclave 2023

Delhi education minister Atishi Marlena said that while it is true India has grown economically, there are issues of concern on the health and education fronts. She said that India was slipping in the Human Development Index rankings, with healthcare and education still low on the priority list of the central government. She also talked about diversity being the biggest strength of the country, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) representing an important voice in this, as for a very long time, politics was considered the preserve of a few. But her most stinging criticism was reserved for the Centre’s crackdown on the right to dissent and the use of central government agencies to target opposition parties and muzzle their voices.

Atishi appointed new education minister of Delhi

NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi has been appointed as the new education minister of Delhi. The leader took oath as the minister today in front of Delhi chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal and lieutenant governor of Delhi, VK Saxena. Along with education, Atishi will handle PWD, power, and transport departments. Notably, she is the first woman minister in the AAP cabinet. Atishi was an advisor of Sisodia in his education portfolio. Her name was forwarded for appointment as minister after deputy chief minister and education minister Manish Sisodia resigned from his Cabinet post. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Delhi education minister Manish Sisodia in connection with alleged corruption in the now-scrapped excise policy relating to the sale of alcohol. President Droupadi Murmu earlier accepted the resignation of Sisodia. LG Saxena had recommended the names of Atishi to President Murmu for appointment as Cabinet minister following a recommendation from Kejriwal for their elevation to the Cabinet. Atishi will be attending the Delhi Assembly's budget session commencing from March 17 as minister. Sisodia was arrested after nearly eight hours of questioning on various aspects of the excise policy for 2021-22, which the probe agency says suffered from irregularities both in its formulation and implementation, allegedly intended to benefit people with links to the AAP. The CBI investigators were not satisfied with Sisodia's answers, an agency official ...

Kejriwal: Others just talk, AAP building modern schools in Delhi

Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday inaugurated a new school building at the Government Girls’ Senior Secondary School (No. 2) in west Delhi’s Uttam Nagar, officials said. Officials said the school was built in 1985, but construction of a pucca building was sanctioned in January 2021 by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led government. Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal inaugurates the building of a government school in at Uttam Nagar. (ANI) Speaking at the inauguration, the chief minister said that since 1985, both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress governed the state, but education was not on their agenda. “As a result, a permanent school building was never constructed here. Our politics is entirely based on providing quality education to every child, which is why the AAP government is dedicated to constructing such brilliant schools,” Kejriwal said on Monday. Officials said the new building has 41 classrooms with a capacity to accommodate 1,600 students. It also has 12 laboratories, two libraries, office and staff rooms, a multi-purpose auditorium, a lift and activity rooms including those for children with special needs. Pointing out that this was not a “one-off example”, Kejriwal said all government schools were being provided with the best facilities out there, which in turn was encouraging parents to send their children to a government school. “We recently were given the charge of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). There are around 1,800 schools und...
