Photograph: Atul Yadav/PTI Photo However, MLA Santosh Bangar from the Shinde-led Shiv Sena denied Thackeray's claim and said there was no threat by the BJP. The reason behind the "revolt" against Thackerays was their alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Congress, Bangar said. Union minister Ramdas Athawale also said the allegations against Shinde were false and the latter was a strong man and he would never cry. Speaking during an interaction at a university in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday, Aaditya Thackeray, the son of former Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray, alleged that 40 MLAs rebelled against the Sena leadership for their own seats and "money". "The current chief minister ( Shinde) came to our house and cried because he was going to be arrested by a central agency, and he said 'I will have to hop over to the BJP otherwise they will arrest me'," he claimed. "It was his good luck that they ( the BJP) wanted to show this guy is the true Sena and we ( BJP) will make him the CM," the former minister said. Defending his party's alliance with the Congress, Aaditya Thackeray said he has learnt a little more about his grandfather than the "BJP's WhatsApp university" is teaching. "My grandfather ( Bal Thackeray) had tie-ups with the Congress before. He had better relations with the Gandhi family earlier also. Before the current CM joined hands with the BJP in June 2022, the slogan 'Narendra in the Country, Devendra in the State' was popular among the BJP followers. It is also not a secret that Fadnavis wasn't happy about having to cede the CM post to Shinde last year. The tagline of 'Modi for India, Shinde for Maharashtra' wouldn't have gone down well with him. On Tuesday, he cancelled his scheduled Kolhapur visit, apparently because he was upset over the ad. The official reason given was that he wanted to avoid air travel due to a problem to his eardrum. Eknath Shinde is preferred over Devendra Fadnavis for Maharashtra CM, says advertisement citing ‘survey’

Amid growing tensions within Maharashtra’s ruling parties, the Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Deputy CM and State BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis on June 13 cancelled his visit to Kolhapur district citing ‘medical reasons’. Friction arose between the ‘Mahayuti’ (translated ‘grand alliance’) partners after a newspaper advertisement placed by the Shinde-led Sena cited a survey which claimed Mr. Shinde was more preferred as the State’s CM than Mr. Fadnavis. Leaders from the Shinde camp scrambled to downplay any differences between their party and the BJP over the survey while the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) pooh-poohed the government’s survey, saying it was “laughable” that the Shinde camp had deployed an agency to conduct a survey obviously favourable to them. “There are no differences between the BJP and the Shiv Sena. Mr. Fadnavis has cancelled his visit owing to medical reasons. We were all present at the state cabinet meeting today where we discussed government schemes and how they can benefit more people,” said Deepak Kesarkar, who is spokesman for the Shinde camp and Guardian Minister of Kolhapur. At the same time, Mr. Kesarkar said that if there had been a mistake while given the advertisement, “it could be corrected.” The full-page advertisement with the flaming headline “Modi for India, Shinde for Maharashtra” featured a picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi chatting amicably with Mr. Shinde.
