Shinde had lost his two children - son Dipesh (aged 11) and daughter Shubhada (aged 7) - in the year 2000 in an accident. Shinde, while remembering the incident today, broke down, "While I was working as a Shiv Sena Corporator in Thane, I lost 2 of my children and thought everything is over." The Maharashtra Chief Minister said as to how Sena leader Anand Dighen helped him in getting over the incident. "I was broken but Anand Dighe Sahab convinced me to continue in politics." "Have Taken Serious Note": Eknath Shinde On Death Threat To Sharad Pawar

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Friday said his government has taken serious note of the death threat to NCP chief Sharad Pawar and he has given instructions for a probe. His deputy Devendra Fadnavis said such threats will not be tolerated. While Mumbai police registered a first information report (FIR) over the threat, Pune cops reviewed security at Sharad Pawar's residence in Shivajinagar area of the city. Calling Mr Pawar a "senior respected leader", Mr Shinde said in a statement that all necessary precautions will be taken for his security. Police authorities have been asked to beef up Pawar's security if needed, the CM said. For the past few days, the chief minister said, deliberate attempts are being made to create tension in the state. "Ever since the Supreme Court verdict (in Shiv Sena-related issues), some people are upset due to which attempts are being made to spoil the atmosphere by glorifying Aurangazeb and Tipu Sultan," said the statement. It added, "These attempts will be thwarted. We will foil the conspiracy to create disturbances for selfish political interests." NCP leaders said their 82-year-old party president received a message on social media that read "he will meet the same fate as (Narendra) Dabholkar soon". Narendra Dabholkar, who fought against superstitious beliefs, was shot dead in Pune in August 2013. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also holds the home portfolio, said he had asked police to take action, assertin...

'Sanjay Raut should use words carefully': Eknath Shinde's son hits out at Shiv Sena MP

Talking to reporters at the 'Shakti Sthal' memorial of the late Shiv Sena leader Anand Dighe here, Shrikant said Raut should be careful about the choice of words as he is also the father of someone and his family is watching his remarks. "This is not the culture of Maharashtra. The state is watching the manner in which he is passing comments. This happens when one realises that power is slipping out of hand," the MP said. "This is a good input for a Bollywood movie. People of Maharashtra will give a befitting reply to the unpleasant and unparliamentary remarks," he added. When asked about the summons issued to Raut by the Enforcement Directorate asking him to appear before it on Tuesday, Shrikant said, "I came to know about this from you, best wishes to him." Addressing Shiv Sena cadres in Mumbai on Sunday, Raut said,"We have learnt a lesson on whom to trust. These are bodies whose souls have died. Their mind is dead. 40 bodies will come from Assam and will be sent directly to the morgue for postmortem". The remarks are seen as a reference to the number of MLAs camping in Guwahati with Eknath Shinde. Earlier in the day, Shrikant and hundreds of supporters of Eknath Shinde assembled at the Anandmath, the seat of the late Dighe from where he used to run affairs of the Sena in the Thane district for several years, to pay tribute to him. The supporters of Shinde later burnt the effigy of Raut in front of the TMC headquarters and shouted slogans against him. Separately, appeals...

Eknath Shinde more preferred as CM over Devendra Fadnavis, claims Shiv Sena survey

In what has signalled a rift between the Shiv Sena and BJP, the Eknath Shinde-led party has come out with full-page newspaper advertisements claiming that people wish to see him as the next Chief Minister of Maharashtra over BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis. The ad reads how Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Shinde have secured the highest position for Maharashtra through recent welfare projects. The ad is headlined - “Modi for India, Shinde for Maharashtra” and goes on to add that it is “The Dream Team Loved by All”. The ad has a photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Shinde smiling at each other while the latter is showing something on his mobile phone. The ad does not have a photo of Fadnavis, who is the BJP’s troubleshooter in Maharashtra and the current Deputy Chief Minister. Read | The advertisement states that according to election surveys, 30.2 per cent of citizens of Maharashtra prefer BJP while 16.2 per cent of people prefer Shiv Sena led by Shinde. “These numbers show that a total of 46.4 per cent people of Maharashtra trust the BJP and Shinde-led Shiv Sena alliance for development of the state,” it said. However, what stunned Maharashtra’s political circles is the claim - “Moreover, as per the surveys done for the Chief Minister’s position, 26.1 per cent people of Maharashtra desire Eknath Shinde and 23.2 per cent of the people wish to see Devendra Fadnavis as the next Chief Minister.” The survey, according to the ad, is an “undeniable proof” that 49.3 per cent of the...

Why Ajit Pawar’s son met a minister from Eknath Shinde’s cabinet

In what has raised eyebrows and triggered speculation, Parth Pawar, the elder son of leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra assembly and senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar recently met state minister and Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena (BSS) leader Shambhuraj Desai. Desai, who holds the excise portfolio, is seen as one of chief minister Eknath Shinde’s trusted lieutenants. He is also the guardian minister of Thane district, which is Shinde’s stronghold. Although the January 19 meeting in Mumbai was described as a personal visit, it has set the cat among the pigeons due to Parth Pawar’s previous moves, which left his party embarrassed, and the wider power struggle within the Pawar clan. Ajit Pawar’s short-lived dalliance with the BJP in 2019 before the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) regime was sworn in as well as reports of a brewing power struggle in the NCP have led to doubts whether he has kept his lines open with the ruling alliance. BJP MLC Gopichand Padalkar, who is a trenchant critic of the Pawar family, claimed Parth Pawar may have met Desai as he was “upset”. “He must be looking for political stability,” he speculated. However, Ajit Pawar dismissed these speculations and said it was wrong to impute political motives to the meeting. “I was deputy chief minister for two-and-a-half years and many Opposition figures used to meet me. We never thought that way. Even now, I meet the chief minister, deputy chief minister and ministersâ€æ We may belong ...
