England will host the Indian cricket team for one rescheduled Test, three T20Is and as many ODIs, starting July 1. The rescheduled Test is from last year’s India tour of England, which was postponed due to rising COVID-19 cases in the Indian camp. India were leading 2-1 when the fifth Test in Manchester was postponed. The visitors are looking to clinch their first Test series win in England since 2007. Led by captain Rohit Sharma, India have announced their 17-member squad for the rescheduled Test. Vice-captain KL Rahul is set to miss the England tour after failing to recover from right groin strain. Without Rahul, Rohit and Shubman Gill are the two available openers for Team India. Meanwhile, Cheteshwar Pujara returns to the Test squad after being dropped from the New Zealand series last year. KS Bharat replaces Wriddhiman Saha as the second choice wicket-keeper behind Rishabh Pant. However, the Indian cricket board is yet to announce the squads for the limited-over series’ whereas England have not announced any squad for the three formats. Stokes had just bowled a half-tracker so off course Billings would have needed arms the length of rowing blades to stop it as England reeled, discombobulated It was soon followed by four overthrows by Zak Crawley and Pant hitting a one-handed six off Jack Leach in an over that cost 22 runs. From 99 for five, after being sent in under heavy cloud cover, Pant had rescued India with a showstopping hundred off 89 balls that made you wonder if it was Jonny Bairstow in disguise. England were flat and ragged, the attack one paced, too, without a bit more zip off someone like James Overton, as India reached 338-7 with Pant fuelling them at 4.6 an over. With one hand or two hands on the bat, it did not matter, Pant still managed to hit sixes off Leach, who bowled at nearly eight an over and mus...

The Ashes: Analysis, past results and betting pointers for the first Test at Edgbaston

Overview: Edgbaston is synonymous with Ashes cricket, particularly in recent years, and few will forget England’s dramatic two-run victory in Birmingham in that memorable 2005 series. Since then, England have made Edgbaston something of a fortress, though Australia overcame a sluggish start with the bat and typically passionate home support to win handsomely in 2019. In once again hosting the first Test of the series, England will be hoping to hit Australia hard with the Edgbaston cauldron and their new brand of Bazball cricket. The pitch in Birmingham, once a heaven for English seamers, has become one of the best all-round surfaces in England over the last few years, offering something for everyone. Head Groundsman Gary Barwell has continually churned out good pitches despite the ever-increasing demand on this first-class venue and we can expect more of the same this summer. 2019 Ashes: Australia won by 251 runs Australia: 284 & 487-7dec England: 374 & 146 Man of the Match: Steve Smith 144 & 142 Twin centuries for Steve Smith powered Australia into a 1-0 series lead, but this was a match of missed opportunities for England having reduced the tourists to 35-3 and 122-8 in the first innings, before eventually conceding 284. In the second innings, hundreds from Smith and Matthew Wade wrestled the game from England’s grasp, only a day after the hosts had moved to 267-4 in their first innings and appeared set to build a sizeable lead themselves. It was largely one-way traffic ...
