Tattvas and Gunas

Tattvas and Gunas The Origin of the Universe In the beginning was SHŪNYĀKĀSHA – “emptiness” or “the void”. Shūnyākāsha is more than “nothingness”, it is an immense potency of dormant energy in which “everything” exists in a latent state of potentiality. Everything conceivable can be brought into existence, just like text written, or pictures drawn, on an empty sheet of paper. As creation began, the divine, all-encompassing consciousness took the form of the first and original vibration manifesting as the sound “OM”. Just like light, sound is vibration, energy. Light and sound are the forms that the Divine Self takes in the Universe. OM is the reflection of the absolute reality. OM is “Ādi Ānadi” - without beginning or end. In the Vedas it is said: NĀDA RŪPA PARA BRAHMA – The form of the Supreme is sound. The vibration of OM symbolises the manifestation of God in form. The silence between two OM-sounds reveals the formless, divine principle. OM embraces “all that exists” – past, present and future, all spheres of the Cosmos, the world and its underlying reality, mind and matter, cause and effect, the path and the goal. The Mantra OM is the “name of God”, the vibration of the Supreme, the all-encompassing Mantra. The essence of all wisdom has its roots in this sound. In the triad A-U-M the divine energy (Shakti) is united in its three elementary aspects as: BRAHMĀ SHAKTI – the creative power that manifests the Universe VISHNU SHAKTI – the preserving power that sustains the C...

Evidence for evolution (article)

Darwin thought of evolution as "descent with modification," a process in which species change and give rise to new species over many generations. He proposed that the evolutionary history of life forms a branching tree with many levels, in which all species can be traced back to an ancient common ancestor. To give one classic example, the forelimbs of whales, humans, birds, and dogs look pretty different on the outside. That's because they're adapted to function in different environments. However, if you look at the bone structure of the forelimbs, you'll find that the pattern of bones is very similar across species. It's unlikely that such similar structures would have evolved independently in each species, and more likely that the basic layout of bones was already present in a common ancestor of whales, humans, dogs, and birds. Some homologous structures can be seen only in embryos. For instance, all vertebrate embryos (including humans) have gill slits and a tail during early development. The developmental patterns of these species become more different later on (which is why your embryonic tail is now your tailbone, and your gill slits have turned into your jaw and inner ear) 2 ^2 2 squared . Homologous embryonic structures reflect that the developmental programs of vertebrates are variations on a similar plan that existed in their last common ancestor. Sometimes, organisms have structures that are homologous to important structures in other organisms but that have los...

Panch Tatva of Human life and Relationship

Panch Tatva of Human life and Relationship We are made of pancha tatva – prithvi, aakash , vayu , agni and jal (earth , sky , air, fire and water ).Apart from what God has created (nature, sun, moon, stars, river, mountains etc) whatever human beings have created for which they feel very proud of is all from this panch tatva . You can not imagine a single thing made by mankind which is not from this panch tatva. So one can easily say even the inventions and creation by human beings have happened because nature / God wanted so. Nothing exists on this earth without the approval of Almighty . I have tried to visualise the panch tatva even in our personal life, in our relationship. For any human being 5 relationships are most important. We get the birth from the womb of mother. We lay in her laps when small kid. Mother is equivalent to earth. Earth only gives you but takes nothing in return. Agriculture products helps us survive , tall buildings where we live and work have their base on earth only , cars , roads on which we move from one place to another in on earth only . Role of our mother is same in our life: makes food for us, gives us with full love and affection. When we are in any discomfort or pain we put our head in her lap. Second tatva is aakash ( sky ) . Aakash covers us, how long and how high it exists cannot be measured . We feel protected in the lap of earth under sky. Aakash in our life is our father. In our life father is one to whom we seek protection if we fe...

The Pancha Tattva

Sri Caitanya-caritamrta 1975 Edition By His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada Adi-lila 7.6 pañca-tattvātmakaṁ kṛṣṇaṁ bhakta-rūpa-svarūpakam bhaktāvatāraṁ bhaktākhyaṁ namāmi bhakta-śaktikam pañca-tattva-ātmakam—comprehending the five transcendental subject matters; kṛṣṇam—unto Lord Kṛṣṇa; bhakta-rūpa—in the form of a devotee; svarūpakam—in the expansion of a devotee; bhakta-avatāram—in the incarnation of a devotee; bhakta-ākhyam—known as a devotee; namāmi—I offer my obeisances; bhakta-śaktikam—the energy of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Let me offer my obeisances unto Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa, who has manifested Himself in five as a devotee, expansion of a devotee, incarnation of a devotee, pure devotee and devotional energy. PURPORT Śrī Nityānanda Prabhu is the immediate expansion of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu as His brother. He is the personified spiritual bliss of sac-cid-ānanda-vigraha. His body is transcendental and full of ecstasy in devotional service. Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu is therefore called bhakta-rūpa (the form of a devotee), and Śrī Nityānanda Prabhu is called bhakta-svarūpa (the expansion of a devotee). Śrī Advaita Prabhu, the incarnation of a devotee, is viṣṇu-tattva and belongs to the same category. There are also different types of bhaktas, or devotees, on the platforms of neutrality, servitude, friendship, parenthood and conjugal love. Devotees like Śrī Dāmodara, Śrī Gadādhara and Śrī Rāmānanda are different energies. This confirms the Vedic sūtra...

Sri Pancha

panca-tattvatmakam krsnam bhakta-rupa-svarupakam bhaktavataram bhaktakhyam namami bhakta-saktikam “I offer my obeisances unto the Supreme Lord, Krishna, who is non-different from His features as a devotee (Caitanya Mahaprabhu), devotional manifestation (Nityananda Prabhu), devotional incarnation (Advaita Acarya), devotional energy (Gadadhara Pandita) and pure devotee (Srivasa Pandita).” (Sri Caitanya-caritamrta) In the Pancaratra scriptures there is a saying that in the ultimate analysis devotion is the only element which might cause the Lord to appear. That’s how the small Panca-tattva came, due to the great desire and devotion of His devotees. Then, as long as the devotee wishes to serve Him, the Lord reciprocates in the same way. Regarding the big Panca-tattva Deities, a whole book has been written on how They were manifested, first in South India, and then installed in Sri Mayapur dhama. Since the beginning, the Lord has granted the desires of His devotees, giving them the opportunity to engage in His service. For example, in order to appear in His Deity form, the story of Bharata Maharaja Prabhu is instructive. He had wanted to help make the Deities. And so a very good artist from Krishnanagar was hired. This artist had a lot of talent, but no devotion. This person started to make the Deities, but soon he stopped coming and in the end, Bharata Maharaja Prabhu had to make Them, finishing all the work himself. Finally, only because of the intense desire of the devotees,...

Sri Pancha Tattva

Advaita-Nityananda-Chaitanya-Gadadhara-Srivasa pancha-tattva mantra (jaya) sri-krsna-caitanya prabhu nityananda sri-advaita gadadhara srivasadi-gaura-bhakta-vrnda Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu is always accompanied by His plenary expansion Sri Nityananda Prabhu, His incarnation Sri Advaita Prabhu, His internal potency Sri Gadadhara Prabhu, and His marginal potency Srivasa Prabhu. He is in the midst of them as the Supreme Personality of Godhead. One should know that Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu is always accompanied by these other tattvas. Therefore our obeisances to Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu are complete when we say, sri-krsna-caitanya prabhu nityananda sri-advaita gadadhara srivasadi-gaura-bhakta-vrinda. As preachers of the Krsna consciousness movement, we first offer our obeisances to Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu by chanting this Panca-tattva mantra; then we say Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare / Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. There are ten offenses in the chanting of the Hare Krsna maha-mantra, but these are not considered in the chanting of the Panca-tattva mantra, namely sri-krsna-caitanya prabhu nityananda sri-advaita gadadhara srivasadi-gaura-bhakta-vrnda. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu is known as maha-vadanyavatara, the most magnanimous incarnation, for He does not consider the offenses of the fallen souls. Thus to derive the full benefit of the chanting of the maha-mantra ( Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare / Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare H...
