FIFA World Cup results 2022: Latest scores today, yesterday, and so far as curtain comes down on Qatar 2022

After 64 matches, Argentina were crowned champions of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Despite starting the tournament with a shock 2-1 loss to Saudi Arabia, Lionel Messi and Co. responded perfectly to win six straight matches. Argentina faced a defiant France in the final as Les Bleus looked to claim back-to-back World Cup titles. Messi gave Argentina the perfect start with an early penalty before Angel Di Maria gave the South Americans some breathing space before halftime. With France looking down and out, their young superstar Kylian Mbappe stepped up with just 10 minutes of regular time remaining with two goals in as many minutes. In extra time, Messi restored Argentina's lead before Mbappe once again equalised for Les Bleus in the dying minutes. Emiliano Martinez came up with a clutch save to deny France a late winner and then made a crucial stop in the penalty shootout as Argentina triumphed 4-2. Messi finally winning his first World Cup, along with another Golden Ball, while Mbappe took out the Golden Boot courtesy of his hat-trick in the final. Spain, which finished second in Group E after an upset loss against Japan, are looking to rediscover the form that saw it rout Costa Rica 7-0 in its World Cup opener. La Furia Roja, who also lost in the round of 16 against Russia in 2018, struggled in front of goal against Germany and Japan and will be facing a stern Moroccan defense that has conceded just once this tournament -- and it wasn't against Croatia or Belgium. Argentina vs France FIFA World Cup highlights: Messi gets his hands on the coveted trophy, ARG are world champions

FIFA World Cup 2022 Final highlights, Argentina vs France: The Lusail Stadium hosted what will go down as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, World Cup finals of all time. Argentina were cruising for much of the match, until Kylian Mbappe converted a penalty and scored a sensational equaliser to force the game into extra-time. That led to more insane football as chances flew around at both ends. Messi scored late in the second-half of extra time to seemingly win it for Argentina, only for them to concede a penalty mere seconds later. The flawless Mbappe converted that as well, thus becoming the first player since 1966 to score a hat-trick in the final of a World Cup. And yet, he ended up on the losing side, with Argentina winning the penalty shootout. Messi finally got his hands on the covetted World Cup trophy in what he said will be his last match in this tournament. He doesn't care any about that, he cradles the World Cup trophy like a baby, then walks up to his teammates and finally, lifts that trophy. Messi has lifted the World Cup trophy. That monkey is off his back in what he has said is his last World Cup match. That is it from us for this match, that is it from us for this World Cup. There will be more to come of c...
