Maharashtra Nashik heavy rains Godavari in spate latest updates

Image Source : PTI FILE In the six-hour period from 6 am on Wednesday, Gangapur dam recorded 4 mm rain, Kashyap–9 mm, Gautami-Godavari- 8 mm, Trimbakeshwar– 20 mm, and Amboli –8 mm, authorities said. Heavy overnight rains in Maharashtra's Nashik district prompted authorities to release water from various dams here, which caused the Godavari river to overflow on Wednesday, officials said. The district administration alerted residents living on the banks of the river as the water level may increase further due to discharge from the Gangapur dam. Water had reached the chest of 'Dutondya Maruti', the tall idol of Lord Hanuman on the bank of the river. Most of the small temples and a canopy under which post-death rites are performed in the Ramkund area here were almost submerged in the water. The rains also caused damage to crops in Yeola, Nandgaon, and Niphad talukas. The district administration moved small stalls and vendors away from the Godavari banks and also appealed to people living near the river to shift to safer places as more discharge of water from dams was expected. Given the forecast of more heavy rains on Wednesday, the administration appealed to citizens not to venture out of their homes unnecessarily. Heavy showers lashed the district in the night, but the rain intensity reduced in the morning. Almost all talukas, including Nashik, Niphad, Igatpuri, Trimbakeshwar, Malegaon, Nandgaon, Sinnar, Baglan, Surgana, and Dewla, received heavy rains, officials said. As a...

Water level in Gangapur dam complex falls marginally

Nashik: The lack of rain in Nashik district has caused the water level in the dams across the district — except in the Igatpuri taluka — to fall. The water level in Gangapur dam complex, that provides drinking water to Nashik city, has dropped marginally from 2,735 million cubic feet (mcft) recorded on June 15, which is 30% of the capacity of the three dams, to 2575 mcft (26%) on July 2, as per the district administration records. “There is no significant rain across the district so far. This is resulting in the drop of the water level in Gangpur dam, though marginally,” said resident deputy collector Bhagwat Doifode. The average water level across the dams in the district almost remained stable, but the ones in the Gangapur Dam Complex have receded marginally and those in Darna tiver have increased. “There is a marginal drop in water level of Gangapur Dam complex, given that the Trimbakeshwar region is yet to receive significant rain. While the water level in Darna river has improved because of good rain in Igatpuri taluka,” said the sources from the district administration. The water levels in Darna Dam Complex rose sharply from 5135 mcft on June 15 to 6859 mcft. The water stored in the complex is largely for Aurangabad, Ahmednagar and some parts of Nashik district. The dams providing water to the areas in Nashik are yet to get water due to lack of rain. The rain in Surgana and around have contributed in maintaining the dam water level of Girna and other dams in , but th...

Gangapur Dam's water level rises

NASHIK: Following heavy rainfall in the catchment areas, the water storage in the Gangapur dam has now risen to 68% of its capacity. While in the district dams, the water level has risen to 42% (27671 mcft) of its total storage capacity of 65664 mcft. The dam is a part of the four-dam complex — comprising Gangapur, Gautami-Godavari Kashyapi and Alandi reservoirs — that provides drinking water to the Nashik city. This is good news as the water stock in the dam complex had dropped to an alarming 33% of capacity monthand-a-half into the monsoon, sparking concerns. On Monday, the collective storage in the Dam Complex was 5629 mcft, 55% of the overall capacity of 10166 mcft. There has been a big leap in the storage level. It has now exceeded the storage level during the corresponding period last year. It was 52% as against Monday’s 68%, and in the complex, it was 37% as against yesterday’s 55%. However, this does not indicate that the district currently has good water storage. The threat of water shortage still looms large. The Nashik Municipal Corporation, which had decided to enforce weekly water cut on Wednesdays in the city, will continue with the schedule till a further decision is taken. In the meantime, water discharge was continued from Darna, Bhavli, and Nandur Madhyameshwar weir at the rate of 1982, 135 and 1614 cusecs respectively. Heavy rains continue; Gangapur Dam 87% full

NASHIK: The heavy rains continued to lash the district on Tuesday, thus leading to a rise in the water level of various dams. The incessant rains proved beneficial for Nashikities as most dams have filled above 70 per cent. Speaking of the city’s main, Gangapur Dam, the dam has filled 87 per cent as of August 16, 2022. The dam was at 80 percent at the same time last year. Due to the rising levels, the officials discharged 500 cusecs of water from Gangapur Dam at 03:00 pm yesterday. However, as the rains continued, the discharge increased to 1,514 cusecs at 06:00 pm. The district administration informed if the rains continue, the discharge will increase gradually. The officials have alerted all the villagers on the Godavari riverside to take precautions and maintain a safe distance from the riverbed. Even though the rains proved beneficial in water storage, the flood in July damaged goods and caused financial losses to many persons. Also, farmers suffered severely as many germinated seeds rotted due to the accumulated water, thus leading to resowing and addition to already pending debts.
