On Saturday (16 July), Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 296-kilometre-long With the inauguration of the expressway, Uttar Pradesh will get its sixth operational expressway. Uttar Pradesh has become the first state in the country to have 13 expressways. Of the 13 expressways spanning 3,200 km, six are operational, while work is underway on seven. UP's Operational Expressways 1. Yamuna (Agra-Noida) Expressway — 165 km 2. Noida-Greater Noida Expressway — 25 km 3. Agra-Lucknow Expressway — 302 km 4. Delhi-Meerut Expressway — 96 km 5. Kharagpur-Siliguri Economic Corridor – Information & Status 516 km Kharagpur – Siliguri Economic Corridor (EC-14), also known as Kharagpur – Siliguri Expressway, is an approved 4 lane access-controlled road by NHAI with a north-south route alignment through West Bengal. Construction of this greenfield corridor will be carried out under the Bharatmala Pariyojana Phase-II program with a primary goal to improve the efficiency of freight movement and boost exports via port connectivity. The project includes the 230 km long Kharagpur – Burdwan – Moregram Expressway which will be built in 5 packages at an estimated cost of Rs. 12,000 crore. NHAI has not yet made the project’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) available online. Bihar: Gadkari Promises 10 Greenfield Expressways By 2024

The central government is gearing up to complete road projects worth ₹3 lakh crore, including 13 greenfield expressways and economic corridors, in Bihar by 2024. This was said by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari on Monday (14 November) while laying the foundation of the road projects in Rohtas district in Bihar. As part of improving road connectivity, 10 Greenfield expressways are under construction in the state of Bihar at an estimated cost of Rs 1.10 lakh crore. The construction of a project on a new alignment is categorized as a Greenfield project. The Greenfield projects generally pass through new areas, wherein the per unit cost of land acquisition is generally less, considering less development in these areas. Raxaul-Haldia Greenfield Expressway • The 6-lane, 692-km-long expressway from Raxaul in Bihar to Haldia Port in West Bengal is being built at a cost of Rs 40,000 crore. • The expressway via Patna will facilitate swift movement of goods from North Bihar to Bengal. It will be a boon for exporters in Nepal who will have high-speed access to Kolkata and Haldia ports. 2. 519 km long greenfield expressway from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh to Siliguri in West Bengal will traverse through northern Bihar. Around 84 km of this four-lane expressway would pass through UP in Gorakhpur, Deoria and Kushinagar districts. Uttar Pradesh which is home to numerous expressway projects will get yet another expressway as the work on Gorakhpur – Siliguri Expressway has begun in the state. The land acquisition process for the 519 km long greenfield expressway connecting Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh (UP) with Siliguri in West Bengal has started in the Gorakhpur and Deoria districts of UP. Around 84 km of this four-lane expressway would pass through UP in Gorakhpur, Deoria and Kushinagar districts before entering Bihar. It will pass through Gopalganj, Siwan, Chhapra, Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Saharsa, Purnia, and Kishanganj before reaching Siliguri. The absence of a direct road connecting Gorakhpur with Siliguri makes it nearly a day to cover the distance between the two cities. With most of it passing through northern Bihar, the proposed expressway will reduce the time and distance between Gorakhpur and Siliguri. In a move that will further expand the expressway network of Uttar Pradesh, the Centre is working on 10 greenfield expressways and economic corridor worth Rs 1.38 lakh crore in the state. This was announced by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari on Monday (13 March) while laying the foundation of highway projects in Mahoba in Uttar Pradesh. The construction of a project on a new alignment is categorised as a greenfield project. The greenfield projects generally pass through new areas, wherein the per unit cost of land acquisition is generally less, considering less development in these areas. A greenfield project is any project that is being built on a new alignment. These projects typically go through undeveloped areas, where the cost of land acquisition per unit is typically lower because there is less development there. In West Bengal, four expressways are being considered. Kharagpur-Burdwan-Moregram Expressway This 230-km greenfield motorway begins at NH-16 near Kharagpur and ends at Morgram (NH-34 & NH-60 Junction) in West Bengal. This four-lane expressway is a component of the West Bengali Bharatmala Pariyojana-developed Kharagpur-Siliguri Economic Corridor. The project's tender is most likely to be announced by December 2022 and would be divided into five packages with an estimated price tag of Rs 120 billion. The traffic that currently comes from Tamil Nadu and Odisha and is headed towards north Bengal must currently pass through Kolkata, which causes severe traffic jams in the city and about a five-hour increase in travel time. Funded by UPEIDA, the 91.35 km Gorakhpur Link Expressway project is a 4-lane, access-controlled expressway in UP. The expressway will connect Jaitpur in Gorakhpur with Salarpur on the Purvanchal Expressway, enabling fast commuting and reducing travel time to less than 5 hours. The overall cost of this project, including land cost, is estimated at Rs 5876.67 crore. The construction of the expressway began in February 2020 and is scheduled to finish in March 2023. About Gorakhpur Link Expressway The 91.352 km long Gorakhpur Link Expressway would be another milestone for the state of Uttar Pradesh in developing its infrastructure. The Uttar Pradesh government decided to build the Gorakhpur link expressway to transmit and transfer the cultural and commercial values from Gorakhpur to Azamgarh and vice versa. The expressway will begin at Jaitpur and end at Salarpur, allowing quick access to State minister Yogi Adityanath declared the Gorakhpur Link Expressway in 2018, and land acquisition started in 2019. The approved greenfield project will cost Rs 5,876.67 crore, including the land cost. The Gorakhpur Link Expressway will have a 110-meter ROW (Right of Way).
