As intriguing as it might be Hawa Mahal, or the Palace of Wind, one of the most photographed monument in the world, is not at all a palace. It is in fact a viewing gallery meant for the royal ladies, to view the city while remaining out of the sight of the public. This is why it is the most ornate purdah. “I wonder how many windows are there.” I had lost my count somewhere on the second floor. “953”, my wife declared.
