Huawei's latest smartwatch comes with a secret pair of earbuds

The not-so-creatively named Huawei Watch Buds will provide users with all the benefits of a smartwatch – being a device that’s both a timepiece and fitness tracker – while also serving as a handy case for their earbuds. When you want to listen to some tunes, you just have to lift the face of the watch up and take out the buds hidden inside. While we can’t judge their capabilities properly without giving them a listen, they don’t seem to be very large – which will limit their audio capabilities and feature set. We don’t expect them to be capable of producing thumping bass, nor for them to come with tools like active noise cancellation or particularly long battery life. Additionally, we’re skeptical that the watch itself will be practical. Based on the released images and videos, the whole thing looks kinda bulky. It doesn’t seem to be the most comfortable gadget to wear on your wrist and certainly not something we’re keen to wear while working out so we can track our fitness goals. The whole concept seems great for people who hate carrying their earbuds or have a tendency to misplace them. But how does the added functionality affect the smartwatch and are these tiny earbuds any good? Here’s what we found out. Design Huawei Watch Buds is a large smartwatch and probably not suitable for those with smaller wrists. In fact, it’s the largest smartwatch we’ve had for review with its 47mm casing measuring 15mm in thickness. Of course, space comes at a premium and we have to factor in the presence of a pair of wireless earbuds inside the smartwatch, which are 10mm thick on their own. The combined package weighs 66.5 grams - more than the 46mm The spacious 1.43-inch AMOLED display brings saturated colors and great viewing angles. Like most of the premium Huawei smartwatches, you get Always-On display (AOD) functionality and auto brightness control. The casing is made from stainless steel and while the watch feels hefty, the weight is balanced well. The build is great and the materials used on ...
