Toyota posted 19,379 unit sales in the month of May 2023 with the Innova range leading the volume charts ahead of Glanza, Hyryder and Fortuner Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has been enduring a good success rate with its recent launches such as the Innova Hycross, Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Glanza. The trio makes up for the majority of the brand’s volume sales every month. In addition, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is also rolled out of TKM’s plant in Bidadi, Karnataka. The Toyota posted 19,379 units as against 10,216 units during the same period last year with a YoY positive sales surge of 90 per cent. Compared to the previous month of April 2023 with 14,162 units, a MoM growth of 37 per cent was noted. The combined sales of Innova Crysta and Innova Hycross stood at 7,776 units against 2,737 units. Toyota HyRyder Price Hike May 2023 After increasing the prices in April 2023, Toyota has increased prices of HyRyder SUV once again in May 2023 Armed with first-in-segment strong hybrid tech, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara have emerged as popular options in compact SUV segment. While Grand Vitara has raced to the second spot beating Kia Seltos, Hyryder has taken a lead over Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun and MG Astor. High demand for Hyryder could be another reason why Toyota may have implemented the higher pricing. Hyryder currently has waiting period of up to 20 months. Toyota also provides Grand Vitara to Maruti, which puts additional pressure on supply. Toyota is working to increase production at its manufacturing facility in Bidadi, Karnataka. Across its portfolio, the company has bookings of more than 1.20 lakh units (end-March 2023). Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder new prices – May 2023 Toyota Hyryder base-spec variant has become costlier by Rs 25,000, which is also the highest price hike of any variant. Toyota and Maruti Suzuki are sort of stuck with an image problem and, frankly, at opposite ends of the price spectrum. Buyer preferences are overwhelmingly in favour of premium vehicles if it is a Toyota and loaded in favour of affordable small cars if it is a Maruti Suzuki. This puts into perspective the cooperation agreement that the two Japanese companies signed in 2017 to jointly work on new models for the Indian market. The first one that truly represent a co-developed yet fairly differentiated new model sharing the same platform are the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. The previous models that the two companies shared were essentially badge-engineered Maruti cars bearing the Toyota logo. But the Hyryder has been jointly developed ground up with inputs that deliver strengths and synergies from both car makers in the partnership. The first highlight of the new Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder (apart from the funky name) is that this will be the first mass-market SUV to feature a hybrid petrol powertrain. I have observed that I have started driving more sedately, intentionally to extract the maximum possible fuel efficiency. As a background for my daily driving conditions, my office is 20 km from my home. In the morning, there is free-flowing traffic on Mumbai's eastern express highway with an average speed of 50 kmph. In the evening, traffic is comparatively slow-paced. My annual running for the last 10 years of driving has been between 10k to 12k with 90% running within city limits. AC is running 100% of the time. Earlier, I used to accelerate or brake fairly aggressively to keep up with the flow of traffic. I am by no means a quick driver, who tailgates the vehicle in front of me. But if a space opens up, I would not hesitate to take it. I used to get 11 kmpl to 12 kmpl then on my Duster. On my Alto, I used to get 15 kmpl to 16 kmpl in similar driving conditions / driving patterns. Now that I have been driving a hybrid vehicle, it seems the car itself pushes me to be a conservative / frugal driver. • RPM gauge is replaced by power band meter. So you always know if you are accelerating too aggressively or economically. • HU has this nifty animation display which keeps on telling you whether the car is running on battery or the engine is powering you on.
