Within the first five minutes of the film, observing Damien’s relentless ogling and innuendos aimed toward women at work and on the streets, viewers get a pretty clear message that he is basically the epitome of a womanizer. Damien’s world is unexpectedly flipped upside down, however, when, after hitting his head in a “Freaky Friday”-esque moment, he awakes to an alternate universe that, much to his shock, is dominated by women. Gender conventions now reversed, women fill male roles in society and act on par with male stereotypes, wearing suits, engaging in casual sex, acting tough and emotionless, etc. While struggling to adjust to his rude awakening, Damien soon finds himself falling for Alexandra (Marie-Sophie Ferdane, “Les Heures Souterraines”), a powerful writer who is practically the female version of Damien from the old world. Hung up on Alexandra, who quite literally “wears the pants” and is quick to objectify Damien in their back and forth, emotionally muddled relationship, Damien gets a long overdue tast...

Parent reviews for I Am Not an Easy Man

This is a bit mature for anyone under 15 or so, but having said that (and to echo other sentiments here) the movie is a refreshing look at role reversal without being creepy or milking the subject matter for abject sexualization. The movie was excellently made, the acting spot on, the videography and directing very well done, and the casting superb. In short, I really liked the movie very much, and heartily recommend for just about any occasion: movie night with friend/lover/spouse/older children, or alone and want to watch something good before turning in...go watch the movie, you won't be disappointed. The only disappointment is why this movie isn't more popular... Show more What an eye opening outside look at being a female in a male dominated world. Thought this was a remake of the 80's movie Switched. Interesting how we all wear masks to cover our soul and what society labels you as. This film shows the prejudice that we continue to perpetuate as a whole, as ourselves being female. After seeing this , I didn't even want to shave for rebellion against being type-cast in society. Provoked emotion and realism on projection of being ones self, whatever self is. Show more Wow. This is a powerful film. I really recommend it as an eye-opener. I suspect they chose to create something that could be classed as humorous in order to 'get it out there' but let's be real here, when you see the world changed from male dominance to FEMALE dominance it's shocking to realise what an un...

I Am Not an Easy Man: An Alternate Reality

Last update:20 October, 2022 Today, we’re going to talk about a movie that came out over a year ago. French cinema, which has always shed light on social issues, now brings us this Éléonore Pourriat film. I Am Not an Easy Man is a romantic comedy where This film, which you can see on Netflix, shows a world in which women are the leaders in all fields and are the “heads of households” and men suffer from sexual violence, harassment, and all kinds of discrimination. It’s an alternate reality where femininity is still considered fairly inferior, but where men are feminine. You’ll realize it’s an absolutely ridiculous world, but its mirror image, our reality, isn’t much different from it. I Am Not an Easy Man: The plot Damien is the main character of this film. He’s a sexist man with very strong patriarchal convictions. H e sees women as sexual objects and nothing more than that. Also, he’s built himself an amazing professional career in marketing by frequently using all the sexist clichés he can come up with. And he feels good in his own skin with the sexist privileges he enjoys. But after hitting himself on the head, Damien wakes up in a world he can’t recognize. It looks like his same old life, but it’s all backward now. In this new reality, women behave in a sexist, patriarchal, and chauvinist manner, and men have been pushed aside to fulfill the usual female roles. An alternate reality: When the tables turn The point of I Am Not an Easy Man is very clever. Damien, horrifi...

I Am Not an Easy Man (2018)

Excellent film. A world where women call the shots--from catcalls to fatherfuckers to men in short/shorts and nail polish...it's great. In 1978, Gloria Steinem wrote, "what would happen if suddenly, magically, men could menstruate and women could not? ...Men would brag about how long and how much." This movie illustrated that point--with humor, bite, and even a bit of sexual frisson. See it. I've never written or rated a movie, but felt that the average rating on IMDb did the movie a great injustice that I had to write this. It's a real shame that the majority of those who rated it poorly failed to see the point of the film. The film focuses on exaggerating every single character and detail, from the chauvnistic male lead, to the 180° world reversal. Though neither world is necessarily one that we currently live in, most men fail to see their own behaviour or sense of entitlement until it's exaggerated in the form of a film like this. Even then, so many men come in here, angrily ranting this is not their nature. If you're not, great, good for you. But the truth is, just like the issue of being born into a certain "superior" race, those living a privileged life fail to realize just how good they have it! The same holds true for gender privilege. Damien is the epitome of chauvinistic men. I, as a woman who looks/dresses a certain type of way, deal with this on a daily basis. This movie is meant to give men a taste of their own medicine. The exaggerations, such as women dress...
