Ravichandran Ashwin Retains No.1 Spot In ICC Test Rankings Despite Being Dropped From India's WTC Final XI

Ravichandran Ashwin has retained the number one spot in the ICC Test rankings for bowlers despite not being named in the playing XI for the 2023 World Test Championship (WTC) final. India decided to play four pacers, which meant there was no place for Ashwin despite being India's highest wicket-taker in the 21–23 WTC Cycle. Ashwin finished as India's leading wicket-taker and overall third-highest wicket-taker behind South Africa's Kagiso Rabada (67 wickets) and Australian spinner Nathan Lyon (88 wickets) in WTC 2021-23 cycle. He took 61 wickets in 13 matches at an average of 19.67 and an economy rate of 2.48. His best bowling figures are 6/91. In WTC 2021-23 cycle, Rohit scored 758 runs in 11 matches at an average of 42.11. He scored two centuries and two fifties in 19 innings, with the best score of 127. The skipper missed out on some matches due to injury. On the other hand, Virat posted decent numbers but could not live up to his 'King Kohli' tag in this cycle. In 17 matches, he scored 932 runs at an average of 32.13. In 30 innings, he scored only one century and three fifties, with the best score of 186. Scoring 163 across the first two days of the World Test Championship Final against India at The Oval, Head jumped three places, joining Marnus Labuschagne (1st) and Steve Smith (2nd) in the top three with a rating of 884. Usman Khawaja (9th, 777 rating points) makes it four Australians in the top 10. Smith and Head were the third and fourth highest-scorer for Australia...

ICC Test Rankings: Ajinkya Rahane Jumps To This Position Post His Heroics In WTC Final 2023

According to the latest ICC Test Rankings, India’s Ajinkya Rahane has jumped to the 37th spot after making a comeback in the Indian Test team for the WTC final 2023. Shardul Thakur on the other hand, stood up to 94th rank among batters, and veteran India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin remained on the top spot among the Test bowlers list. Australians sealed the top three spots in the rankings as Steve Smith and Travis Head followed Marnus Labuschagne after smashing a hundred in the WTC final win against India at The Oval. Though India lost the game by a huge margin of 209 runs, Rahane was the only one who made a mark with his willow as he made 89 and 46 in both innings while Shardul Thakur also collected a fifty in the first innings. Evidently, because of their brilliant performances in the WTC final, both Rahane and Thakur got a heavy jump in the ICC Test Rankings. Even though Ashwin missed out on playing the WTC final 2023 against Australia, he managed to be the top-ranked Test bowler while his colleague Ravindra Jadeja is at the ninth spot. India’s stalwarts like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have sealed the 12th and 13th spots respectively. Star wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant who is still recuperating from a horrifying car crash last year is the top-ranked Indian who is at 10th position in the rankings. Australians continued to occupy the top spots in the list as Labuschagne hold the number one position with 903 rating points followed by Steve Smith at the second spot aft...
