By Divya Bhati: The government of India has recently made it mandatory to link the PAN card with the Aadhaar card for certain services, including filing the income tax return. The government has also updated the last date set to link the PAN with Aadhaar from 31 March 2022 to 31 March 2023 with a minimal penalty fee. Aadhaar and PAN link after March 2022 penalty fee People linking Aadhaar with PAN after the due date of 31 March 2022 will have to submit fines. If the Aadhaar link with PAN was done between 1 April 2022 and 30 June 2022, citizens had to pay Rs 500 as a fine. But if you have still missed linking the two identification cards, then you can do it now but with a penalty fee of Rs 1,000 to link them between 1 July 2022 and 31 March 2023. So if you have linked your Aadhaar Card with your PAN card but are unsure if the process has been completed, then you can check the status both online and offline to avoid penalty. You can link your Aadhaar card with your PAN card and check the process through the Income Tax Department's e-Filing portal. --Enter your PAN number and date of birth. --Enter the security captcha and submit. --Your status of Aadhaar and PAN card linking will be displayed on the screen. Vide Press Release dated 10 June 2017 (pursuant to the SC decision) Various Extensions By CBDT: CBDT initially made it mandatory to link PAN with adhaar number till 30 th Septmeber 2019 which was extended to 31t December 2019 vide CBDT Notification No 75/2019 dated 28 th September 2019; which was again extended to 31 st march 2020 vide Notification no 107/2019 dated 30 th December 2019. The government has already extended the deadline thrice due to Covid-19 – first from March 31, 2020, to June 30, 2020, then to March 31, 2021 and then again to June 30, 2021 vide CBDT Press Release dated 31 st March 2021.
