Atma Darshan Yogashram
Decades ago, before Bangalore became a hub for technology and yoga a trend, Atma Darshan Yogashram came into existence. I n the seventies, a lot of interest w as expressed in y oga by people from diverse fields, including the medical community, psychologists, alternative healing practitioners and the people of Bangalore . Paramahamsa Swami Satyananda, founder of the Bihar School of Yoga, Munger, and disciple of Swami Sivananda Saraswati of Divine Life Society, Rishikesh, understood this and put Bangalore on the map of his mission to spread yoga from door to door and shore to shore. Swami Satyananda’s first visit to Bangalore in 1979 was very well received by a wide cross-section of people. At the end of the visit, in an interview on the national radio, he announced the opening of a y oga c entre in Bangalore. In 1982 a Yoga Convention was organized in the city. Swami Satyananda graced the occasion and named the ashram ‘Atma Darshan ’ .
