25 people fall into well at Indore temple during Ram Navami celebration, PM Modi 'deeply pained'

Indore temple accident: At least 25 people are feared trapped after they fell into a well as roof of Shri Beleshwar Mahadev Jhulelal Temple caved in during Ram Navami celebration in the Patel Nagar area in Indore. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said said he was deeply pained by the mishap and assured that the state government is spearheading rescue work. In the video footage, cops can be seen trying to pull people out of the well using ropes. So far, five people have been rescued while 20 people are still said to be trapped. A video of the incident showed chaos outside the temple following the incident as locals gathered in large number to assist the rescue operation. The accident took place when devotees were sitting on the floor during hawan at the temple. Under the floor was a Bawadi (stepwell). The cement seal of the stepwell collapsed and devotees fell into the well. The old well was covered with a concrete slab in the courtyard of Lord Shiva temple in Patel Nagar. The concrete caved in due to load as a huge number of devotees turned up at the temple, Bhanwarkuan police said. The victims fell into the water and clung to the hanging debris of the concrete and iron mesh to save themselves.
