In a first for Indore, new regional airline turns the city airport as its domicile base

The Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport in the city of Indore becomes the base operating centre of new regional airlines that is to kickstart services from November 15. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has provided the new venture with a clearance after inspection, and the airlines has already started to work on the set up and maintenance for the same at the airport premises. The maiden aircraft, imported from Australia, will reach Indore in a week. New international air cargo terminal inaugurated at Indore’s Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport; details here

On Wednesday, a new international air cargo terminal was launched at the Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport in Indore by the Airport Authority of India’s (AAI) subsidiary at a cost of Rs 2.26 crore. The new facility has been inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The minister also flagged off a parcel as a token to its destination, according to a PTI report. On the occasion, the CM said that after the start of the new international air cargo facility in Indore’s Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport, machinery, diamond and other jewellery, leather products, export of medicines, auto parts as well as fruits and vegetables will get a boost. According to the Chief Minister, in view of the growing number of air passengers from the city of Indore, it was necessary to expand the airport. Therefore, the state government of Madhya Pradesh will give 22 acres of land adjacent to the Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport to the AAI, Chouhan said. The CM while addressing Indore Lok Sabha MP Shankar Lalwani’s request, said logistics facilities will be established in the 20 kilometres radius of the international airport. Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Puri also expressed his happiness through a video message and said that the launch of the new cargo facility will give a boost to the export of medicines, cloth, ready-made garments, as well as food products. The temperature in Indore had crossed 29 degrees Celsius in the last two days, but dropped to 23 degrees Celsius on Monday. This was credited to drizzles reported early this morning. The sky would get clear from Tuesday due to which the day temperature would increase while the night temperature would drop from Tuesday to next two days. The intensity of the western disturbance has weakened and is now seen as a trough, while the high moisture feeding from the Arabian Sea has reduced. The maximum temperature in Indore was recorded at 232 degrees Celsius on Monday, which was five degrees Celsius below normal. The night temperature was recorded at 15 degrees Celsius, which was four degrees Celsius above normal. The humidity level was high and the wind speed remained at 12 kilometers. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Wednesday that the Indore airport should be converted into an international airport. While attending the launch of the Indore to Dubai flight, the Chief Minister said, "Indore is an engine of growth." The Chief Minister attended the virtual event with the presence of Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar. The event was launched by Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. Shivraj Chouhan further said, "We have discussed that Indore airport should be converted into an international airport. The discussion is also underway over the construction of the new airport or the extension of it. This is important not only for Indore but also for Malwa, Newar and the entire state.” The Chief Minister also added that people want air connectivity as no one has an abundance of time anymore. If the state is keen to boost tourism, investment and business, an international airport is of utmost importance.
