That makes it a large and heavy device, but Pro Max buyers should be well used to these dimensions and weight by now. It's about on par with the While the design isn't particularly exciting, Apple continues to lead the market with materials and build quality. The iPhone 14 Pro Max features a stainless steel frame (as opposed to the standard iPhone 14's aluminum) and is protected with the company's own Ceramic Shield. Apple says its Shield is stronger than competing glass, but that's not something we can test in a practical manner. The iPhone 14 Pro Max has the same (Credit: Eric Zeman) The phone has the same flat side edges as the last two Pro Max models, with controls scattered around the frame. Flat-edged phones are less comfortable to hold than those with rounded frames, and that is certainly true of the iPhone 14 Pro Max—but dang that stainless steel feels good. The left side houses the ringer switch and separate volume toggles, while a combined power/screen lock button graces the right edge. The switch and buttons have superb travel and feedback. If you’ve already gotten your iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max, you’re probably still getting to know the new handset. If you’ve not yet received yours, maybe you want to learn as much about it as you can while you wait. We’ve covered most of the new features, but there are always things Apple just didn’t tell us about. With that in mind, here are five hidden features of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max The Always-On Display Isn’t Really Always On One of the highlighted features of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max is its always-on display. However, even dropping the refresh rate down to 1Hz could still result in unacceptable battery drain. That’s why Apple designed the always-on display to actually turn it off when it’s best to do so. We’ve Your ProRAW Photos Are Humongous Okay, this one isn’t really a feature, but the sacrifice a feature imposes. Normally, a regular photo would take up between 1MB and 3MB of storage on your device. However, a combination of the ProRAW format and the new 48MP camera on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max means much bigger files. In fact, you can expect images captured in ProRAW with the full 48MP camera to take up to 80MB of storage. If you don’t have a lot of space on your device, this could be a problem. Hey guys, I think I can do this rumour mill stuff too. "According to reliable insider information, Apple is in advanced development of a brand new (amazing unrealistic) product XYZ, planning to release it in Q1 of next year." A few months later.... "According to reliable insider information from a supplier, Apple has delayed the release of product XYZ, due to issues with the design and reliability. The launch has been moved back to Q3". A few months later... "According to reliable insider information, Apple has reportedly cancelled product XYZ entirely. Product XYZ was in advanced development, and the insider says Apple no longer plans on launching the product." Rinse and repeat. ARRGRGGGGGGDDDDFRRRYYYYYY!!!!! We get the absolute dumpster fire abortion of Stage Manager that barely functions and has a tiny niche use case for maybe 8/100 people, but we can't get a larger battery (because thinner is unfortunately an obsession), better Files management, an ACTUAL SSH CLIENT, Xcode, Apple's Final Cut suite, move the FaceID and Camera to Landscape, and Lock Screen manipulation. I am so ready for a 14" iPad, put one on my wall in my kitchen for HomeKit management as well as doubling as a wall TV. My 12.9 is wonderful for this usage, as well as my other 12.9 I use for Work, but I am so ready for a larger screen size. Mouse and Keyboard just no longer interest me, I am always Full Screen with my apps and swiping and typing on the screen is a dream. 14.1" I would buy three just to s...
